Joshua Perry led the 2014 Buckeyes with 72 solo tackles and is 17th on the all-time single season list. He was only six solo tackles short of making the top 10.

Tom Cousineau made over 100 solo tackles in season twice. His 142 solo tackles in 1978 is an Ohio State record.
The 100 Club
Only three Buckeyes have collected 100 tackles in a single season. The players that accomplished this milestone are Tom Cousineau (1978 and 1976), Chris Speilman (1986) and Ryan Shazier (2013).
To put Cousineau's 1978 performance of 142 solo tackles in perspective Steve Tovar and Marcus Marek round out the top 10 with 78 solo tackles. That is a difference of 64 tackles.
What Happened to the Solo Artist?
Since the turn of the century only two Buckeyes were able to crack the top 10 in solo tackles. Ryan Shazier is No. 4 with 101 tackles in 2013 and Matt Wilhelm comes in at No. 7 with 79 tackles in 2002.
Before Shazier's impressive 2013 season the last time a Buckeye defender made it in the top 5 was Lorenzo Styles (84) in 1993.
