The lead singer for Incubus and his side band, Sons of the Sea, Brandon Boyd, was born in Van Nuys, CA, on February 15, 1976. Mom and dad were in the entertainment business, and nurtured his artistic side. Must run in the family, as there are several professional musicians, including his brother, Jason, front man singer for Audiovent.

Brandon and his bros at Calabasas High School put the band together when he was 15. Incubus plays a hard to define, but easy to listen to form of alternative rock and rap rock using a DJ. They have been influenced by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alice in Chains, Faith No More, Primus and Rage Against the Machine. But, it was Brandon’s voice and lyrics that attracted record labels at the band’s club dates at the Whisky, Troubadour and Roxy in LA. After self-producing their first album, Fungus Amongus, the band landed a major record deal and became a touring band.

While Incubus became a multi-platinum selling group with 7 albums (Make Yourself and Light Grenades best known of them) and 4 No. 1 Billboard US Alternative songs (“Drive”, “Megalomaniac”, “Anna Molly” and “Love Hurts”), Brandon also wrote 4 books, became a galleried painter and eventually returned to college. During an Incubus hiatus beginning in 2008, Brandon released a solo album, and during a later hiatus formed Sons of the Sea.

In addition to his artistic life, Brandon is also involved in charitable organizations and The Make Yourself Foundation. He is especially known for his activism on environmental issues.

Happy 40th Birthday to Brandon Boyd!
