Move over, 614! There's a new area code in town.

Yes, numbers are infinite, but there are only so many 614-area codes to be passed around, and with Columbus' growth, they're running thin.

As such, the 380 area code will officially be introduced next year, according to Tim Feran of Dispatch.com:

The first number with the new 380 area code will be put in use no sooner than Feb. 27, 2016, according to the North American Numbering Plan Administration.

The new area code will serve the same geographic area as the existing 614 code. Instead of breaking the region into two area codes, regulators have adopted an “overlay” plan that allows for two area codes and eventually requires people to dial 10 numbers, even when making local calls.

Making us dial 10 numbers even for local calls, eh? That will be a rousing success with our city's seniors, I'm sure.
