Wow...not even one vote for Coach Meyer. I guess 6-7 to 12-0 isn't a great turn around.

Does everything have to be an insult? People expect success from Meyer, NOONE expected ND to go undefeated this year.

Seem to remember it was Palmer. That fratboy haircut and the discomfort he exudes in a suit and tie may be hiding one of ESPN's more balanced analysts.

But even so, to turn all this around with a new system, new coaches, a ton of injuries, and a bowl ban is remarkable. The fact that the media downplays it is insulting.

I penciled in Wisky as a sure loss. Nervous about PSU too. I was thinking more along the lines of 9-3 or 10-2. Undefeated really didn't enter my mind which made doing it all the better

@MSU, @Penn State, and @Wisconsin I thought could go either way.

The main reason 12-0 entered my mind was the fact that even though this team went 6-7 last year, they still had a shot at winning every game in 2011.

I would've been surprised had we not gone 12-0. I know it's difficult, but we had more talent, a better QB, and a better coach than anyone on our schedule. 2011 was a perfect s***storm that led to 7 losses..... an abberation.

I have no problem with Kelly winning, but the job Urban did should be getting a lot more recognition.

What mystifies me, is that some people have stated on here that they've looked at games on a schedule and automatically chalked it up as an L. WTF?!?! Have more faith in your team! This is Ohio Damn State!!

Yeah but coming into this year when was the last time anyone had won in Madison. Everything came together this year for us to go undefeated but it's difficult to go 12-0 for a reason. Most years with this schedule we probably go 10-2 or 11-1 IMO.

In 2008, during a "rebuilding year" and with a true freshman QB, we waltzed into Camp Randall and got a W. Its hard to go undefeated, but OSU should expect to win every game.

I'd argue that given the schedule Kelly was starring at with huge questions on offense, his accomplishments are greater than Meyer's given what Meyer had to work with and against whom he had to work.

I just think Kelly was the right guy for this award and since he was (in my opinion) a lack of any votes for Meyer is irrelevant to me. Since I don't think Meyer deserved the award over Kelly, I don't care how many votes Urban got or didn't get.

Kelly caught a million breaks this season, namely Stanford starting the wrong QB, USC's star wunderkid getting injured in the final minutes of the previous game, the Pitt kicker forgetting how to knock in chip shot FGs, and several of the worst calls of the season going his way. Luckiest coach in America, I can buy. Best coach... I dunno. Kelly's had three years already to turn the ship around in South Bend, but the collossal rebuilding jobs BO'B and Meyer have had to do (and vastly exceeded expectations) is voteworthy. Again, like the Heisman, another sham glamor contest for the best coach in the national championship :/

Well now wait a minute-A lot of people got upset over Tressel's lack of a B1G coach of the year because he never really had to rebuild the way all of its winners previously had to and now Meyer deserved the award because he rebuilt? I don't follow that line of thinking. The award shouldn't just go to the best turn around job-and to compare BoB's to Urban's is sort of insulting to PSU (this from the biggest Anti PSU Zealot on these boards). The Coach of the Year can go to a guy who rebuilds the best, it can also go to a guy who's team had a great season against one of, if not the hardest schedules in the nation. Lucky isn't fair either-every coach (Meyer included) was lucky this season.

I don't have a problem with Kelly winning. I certainly didn't think Notre Dame was gonna have the season they did this year. Was Urban deserving? Well yeah I think so, but we are serving a bowl ban and it wouldn't surprise me if that affected the fact that Meyer didn't get any votes.

That's what I'm thinking. Bowl ban = lack of votes to otherwise deserving teams, coaches, players, etc.

What did you expect? Considering Urban wasn't the coach of the year in his own conference, he certainly wasn't going to be coach of the year nationally. You'd have to think he'd be at least behind O'Brien there if there weren't other worthy candidates from other conferences/independents.

The 7 losses last year were by 50 total points, and only one loss was by more than a TD. Sure, we look at 2011 and say this was likely the worst OSU team we had seen in a long time, if not ever, but there were six games that could've been wins had a play here or there gone differently. When you switch from rookie interim coach Luke Fickell to perhaps the top coach in the game in Urban Meyer, and you combine that there was talent on this team and many of the Big Ten powers from last year took a step back, some sort of turnaround would certainly be expected.

Make no mistake, though - the fact that Urban was able to coach this team to 12-0 separates him from just about all of the other coaches. A lot of good coaches could have come in here and got this team to 9 or 10 wins, but Urban and maybe only a couple of others could've got this team to go 12-0. I'd love to see Urban get a bit more love for what he did this year, but I could see why an outsider might think that the turnaround wasn't as spectacular as some others out there.

As much as it pains me to say it, ol' rosey rage face is worthy of the award.
