The timing of this really stinks, that's for sure. Pretty classless how it all went down. But in their defense, Vanderbilt has a hard time getting bowl eligible as it is. They have to schedule games, especially non-conference games, they think they can actually win, so they have Austin Peay (1-aa), U-mass (was 1-aa, now in mac), Uab (conf-usa), and wake (acc).

Actually, BED...OSU's regular season record vs. SEC teams is something like 7-3-2 (if you include Missouri the wins skyrocket).

Yeah, it totally sucks. Truth is we just don't play SEC teams outside of bowls. The last one was 1988 against LSU...which means even if we do end up playing an SEC team in the future, it'll probably be 30+ years since the last time. It's really the only conference that the B1G doesn't schedule with any regularity. Someone with knowledge of the inner workings can maybe shed light on why. I can only speculate that it is hard to schedule teams from a conference that plays 2 of its first 4 games of the year, on average, against teams in-conference. It's also probably why 90% of the SEC still schedules games against FCS opponents in November.

I think there are two major reasons that the SEC and B1G have a hard time scheduling games. I think the first is the one that you mentioned. Most SEC teams play 2 conference opponents while the B1G is busy losing to MAC schools which means you have a 2 week window. Also, the SEC contract require sa Thursday game fairly often and an early night game each weekend. This makes scheduling hard because the B1G doesn't really like playing on Thursdays and they have their own obligations to BTN.

I wonder why they backed out? Not that I think Vandy is a great quality opponent but it would be nice to beat a little SEC ass even though they are hardly your typical SEC team. So what do we think? UAB again...or back to good ole reliable Ohio teams that have no chance? C'mon Smith make some miracle happen buddy!

Will do. The class is only on Wednesdays so it could be a bit.

I should mention, it is a sports law class so scheduling, NCAA compliance, contracts, and realignment are pretty poplar issues.

Right?!? Shows how little most consumers know about performance cars. The dudes says its gots rims and a body kit. Whoopy-doo...last time I checked, rims don't made your car "faster" unless you get a rim/tire package that is lighter (a la centripetal mass). I can't remember the last time a CAMRY saw anything but the tail lights of my BMW or EVO. Engine tuning and/or forced induction make cars fast...

I'd love to see this! Don't think they're available though. On Land-Grant Holyland they made a list of all the FBS teams that still have that date available. The most appealing opponent on the list was BYU. To save you the click, here it is:

Here are the teams with open dates that week: BYU, West Virginia (though this is all but impossible as they already have another neutral site game scheduled and need another home game), Tulane, Washington State, Kansas, Southern Miss, UTEP, FIU, North Texas, BC, Duke, NC State, Virginia, and Wake Forest.

Personally, I wouldn't mind BC, NC State, or Virginia, either.

Nothing. Saw it on twitter earlier. Since it was a one off, and not a home-home, there was no penalty in the contract. Bad move by the AD.

Are they open that weekend? Because NC State is, and NC State would be a good matchup. They're one of the better teams in the ACC this year, and NC is a solid state for recruiting. Beating them would further our exposure in that state, beyond what we already have with Withers on our staff.
