Against his parent's wishes, 6-foot-7, 290 pound defensive lineman Malik McDowell, a five-star prospect, has chosen Michigan State today in a signing day announcement at Southfield High School.

McDowell's parents were vocal in their wishes that he'd get out of Michigan for college. His father told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.com he wanted his son to choose Ohio State or Florida State, but McDowell called an audible today and selected the Spartans. The question now becomes whether or not his parents will acquiesce and sign his national letter of intent so that he can officially enroll in East Lansing.

Ohio State could be waiting another ten days or so to see if they've added another Michigan State commitment, New Jersey's Darius Slade, to their docket. Slade announced this morning he'd not sign with Michigan State and will make an official visit to Ohio State on February 15th.
