Super Bowl XLVIII: Denver Broncos vs. Seattle Seahawks

Super Bowl XLVIII

Super Bowl XLVIII will feature the greatest age gap between the two starting quarterbacks. Peyton Manning threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns as the Denver Broncos disposed of the New England Patriots, 26-16. A few hours later, Seattle prevailed in a slobberknocker against the 49ers when Richard Sherman intercepted a Colin Kaepernick pass in the endzone with 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

If gambling is your thing, Super Bowl XLVIII will be a pick 'em.

Oh, and Richard Sherman delivered the most Richard Sherman post-game interview ever:

I like Manning to silence the doubters that should have never existed in the first place.

Agreed. Let's go, Peyton. It's the only way I will ever root for the broncos.

Go Broncos!! I'm a long time Bronco fan, from the late 70s (after they drafted Randy Gradishar - I was 8 or 9 at the time), I hope to see Peyton get another and Champ Bailey cap off a stellar career with a Lombardi Trophy....

I agree. Peyton Manning is too dangerous to be counted out and I think he will lead the Broncos to victory.
Regardless of who wins, it should be a good game. Seattle has the #1 defense and Denver has the #1 Offense in the league. I feel that Peyton Manning is unstoppable this year and will beat the Seattle defense. He happened to be my fantasy football MVP.

gm3jones's picture

I am puilling for Peyton, but thinking that Seahawks are going to slow him down with a few good blitzes and rattle him. Doesn't matter to me which wins, but would like to see Peyton get his second ring.

There is nothing more remarkable as learning to think better.

Lifetime fan of the Seahawks. To beat the Broncos** and Elway (AFC rival when I was a kid) would make a Super Bowl win that much sweeter.

I imagine Lynch saying "Get off me son!" as he brushes off No. 22.
* Can't wait to see Carlos Hyde do this in the NFL.
** I do like watching Manning play the game. I hope Seattle's secondary can slow Peyton and Thomas down.

**Which Thomas will you be hoping to slow down...there are two and both are dangerous!

Totally agree. I just couldn't stand the thought of that titanic douche holding up the Lombardi trophy.

I would cheer for Seattle, but Pete Carroll puts me over the top...go Broncos.

The amount of blown calls in that NFC championship game has made me a huge Broncos fan for the next two weeks.

Yea well that's what happens when Gene Steratore is the lead official.....he is terrible and makes calls bc he thinks people are there to see him

beamga's picture

This three-part story by Peter King shows what a typical week is like for an NFL officiating crew. It chronicles Gene Steratore and the rest of the rest of his officiating crew that did the Seahawks-49ers game today. There were some questionable calls but I disagree with the idea that Steratore thinks people are there to see him.

Now living in Colorado. I have to say Seattle. I can't stand broncos fans.

I do hate Pete Carroll, but really like Russell Wilson.

COhio Buckeye's picture

Not sure when you moved to Colorado, but I've lived here for 3 years to experience Tebow mania and PFM at his finest.  Not sure where the dislike for Broncos fans comes from....who is your team?
I moved from Columbus and have to say it's awesome to have a pro football team that has competent management and coaches and players that love their city/fans.  Love the passion, even if it is a bit fair weather.  I flew through DIA yesterday (1/20) and 2 out of 5 people were sporting their gear...reminds me of Buckeye fans in that regard.
GO BRONCOS!!

Buckataltitude's picture

Been here for about 3 years also. My team is the Bengals (so no hope for them ever).

Anyways, all the fans I know are completely fair weather or have no clue. It is sad when I do not even watch NFL that often and I know more about the Broncos than there own fans. I even had a guy tell me he doesn't like Peyton and that Peyton threw the game when they played the Colts. I mean c'mon, 1 of the greatest QB's to ever play the game, but you would rather have Cutler. That was a true conversation I had with 1 fan. I mentioned to him that the Broncos would be an average team without Manning.

And to be honest my wife is from Cleveland, so there is some natural bad blood.

BuckeyeChief's picture

Sherman may be an all timer on the "All No-Class" NFL team. Go Peyton.

Oh come on, dude won Seattle the game. Huge pick and an insane tip when SF had all the momentum. I don't care how classless that was, it was amazing. Just like what Marcus Hall did.
Oh, and he's a Stanford graduate. I don't even know what to say, that interview was awesome on so many levels.
I like Manning, but go Seahawks.

When I walked in this morning and saw the flag was at half mast I thought, "Alright, another bureaucrat ate it." but then I saw it was Li'l Sebastian. Half mast is too high. Show some damn respect.

BuckeyeChief's picture

Helluva play I'll agree. Poor sport going after Crabtree right after the play. He is a clown. I've been listening to his act for the last two years, tired of it.

Lol, Sherman logged in and downvoted me during the celebration!

As if Crabtree wasn't talking trash ? Or as if most wide receivers don't talk trash ... With the way rules are now and the level of the game I'll take Sherman and all his trash talking any day of the week !!! I'm a browns fan by the way so I suppose I would take anybody at this point ... Soooo with that being said I think my opinion is Noel and void ....

Sherman is mouthy as hell, but at least he backs it up. Nothing worse than guys like Chad Johnson running his mouth 4 years past his prime when he was only great for a few years.

Dustin Fox was our leading tackler as a corner.... because his guy always caught the ball.

cplunk's picture

Chad Johnson was a six time pro bowler, the Bengals all time receiving leader, and one of only thirty receivers in NFL history to have over 11,000 yards receiving.
Guy may have been a tool sometimes, but he was far from only good for a few years.

So if you make an amazing play to seal your teams trip to the Super Bowl it is okay to be a jerk?

J.Mo's picture

Sherman has so much swag he should have been on those Jimmie Johnson Miami teams.

Buckeyevstheworld's picture

You're confusing swag with being an a-hole.

Besides, Miami couldn't afford him.

How in the world did Harbaugh bottle up Sherman while at Stanford?

cdub4's picture

Harbaugh is loud mouth arrogant jerk also. Didnt he guarantee a victory over OSU while at UM? I am rooting for the Seahawks because I like defense, dont like the way the NFL has gone with the passing numbers. I like Manning and Sherman, both are excellent players.

That Sherman interview is one of the most hilarious things I've seen. I'm definitely pulling for the Seahawks.

Broncos. Thank you.

Pulling for Manning. Hopefully he can become the first starting QB to win a Super Bowl with 2 different teams.
I think he is the epitomy of being a pro and has mastered the game better than anyone. Another ring, or two, would vault him to the top of the all time great arguments.

Dont care about the teams. Go Manning.

southbay's picture

Seems like a good guy, I just don't care for most of the ads he has appeared in.
How odd that Eli has more rings.

Unky Buck's picture

The ads, eh, but if this can't get you to root for Peyton, I don't know what would...

...

DJ Byrnes's picture

I don't have any problem with the Seahawks (or surprise, Richard Sherman) but I couldn't agree more. I RESPECT PEYTON'S HUSTLE, although his friendship with Papa John is just a tad unfortunate.

I personally didn't think she looked scared...Erin Andrews that is.  It was a pretty bold move by Sherman saying that IMO. It's one thing to say that Crabtree shouldn't have talked shit...but talking shit like Sherman did was stupid...especially before playing the Super Bowl too.  I think that could come back to haunt him. I tend to think that it will.  Go Broncos!

Some people think we’re the hunted.I don’t feel that way at all. We’re the hunter.Everybody wants an angry football team.Everybody wants a team on edge and a hungry team.If you’re a hunter, that usually equates to being hungry.

buckeyestu's picture

I do not like either team. I do think Denver will win, highly unlikely i will watch the game.

southbay's picture

Usually I just tune in sometime during the fourth quarter, and I'll stick around for the end if it's close.

BullCityBuckeye's picture

Seahawks all the way.  I don't even want to think about all the S-E-C chants from the SEC fans/faithful if Peyton wins.

Sadly enough, that will probably actually happen.

Happy not to have to see a Harbaugh on the sideline this year. For that reason, Seahawks. And that D is Nasty fun.

JOhio1560's picture

Since none of my favorite teams are playing, it's time to go to the stat that always helps me decide who to root for: former Buckeyes.  Surprisingly, there is only one ex- Buckeye on the Super Bowl rosters.  Justin Boren on the Broncos .  Found the correct team to root for.

rosycheeks's picture

Before the conference semifinals, I made a $20 bet at 2.5-1 odds that the Broncos would not win the Super Bowl. So....crap. And go Hawks.

Indy_Buck87's picture

The legion of boom and their awesome secondary will win this game for the Hawks.  Manning retires at the end of the season.  Sherman will get on TV and proclaim he is the best Football player to have ever lived right before a disgruntled Crabtree hits him with a metal chair and get him in a figure 4 leg lock. Erin Andrews becomes traumatized and can never announce again.  After a few years she resorts to Porn and becomes a household name again.

I was half asleep for Shermans post game Booker T impression, which was freakin epic, and i usually root for the guys with a few screws loose. But in light of the media being gung ho on Peytons legacy if he doesnt win, I will be pulling for Denver. Guessing somewhere along the lines of 27-20

I'm a bit indifferent. Not because I like the Seahawks, but I'm a Clevelander living in Denver. I remember The Drive and The Fumble. At the same time, living in a city that wins a championship is really fun - got to experience that in Green Bay a few years ago.
Go Broncos?

Unky Buck's picture

A good friend of mine lives out there now. I think he still harbors anger for The Drive and The Fumble. He was rooting for whoever came out of the NFC.

...

TBDBITL0509's picture

I guess I just never thought I'd find myself in a position to actively root for Denver. I don't hate the Broncos (hate is for the Steelers and UM), but the Browns were *this close*. That's hard to forget.

Brandon26841's picture

I'll be rooting hard for Denver but this will be an interesting game. The best passing offense ever vs. one of the best passing defenses ever, and the game's going to be played in what will likely be very cold and maybe even snowy weather... not a great match-up for Denver all things considered, but I can't really count Peyton out with the way he's playing right now.

Sherman is a great player, but the guy's an absolute punk. You just made an amazing play to send your team to the super bowl, and the first thing you do is run over to the guy you were covering and start talking shit / rubbing it in his face? I don't see how Crabtree restrained himself there; I would have wanted to kill Sherman, ha. As for the post-game interview... meh. I know he was fired up / adrenaline was going like crazy but he looked and sounded like an idiot.

I hate the Mannings and as a Browns fan I cannot in good conscious root for the Broncos.
I hate Pete Carroll as he is a dirty coach, especially with what he did to USC.
I cannot root for a missile to hit the stadium because that is an act of terrorism.
I'm rooting for a blizzard to cancel the game.

I don't have a horse in this race...so naturally I will have to cheer for the team with the best hermit crab..."Marshawn Pinch."  Have to cheer for the Seahawks because this is real life.

I'm not sure which post game interview wold be more interesting. Richard Sherman winning, or Richard Sherman losing.

Mortc15's picture

I believe in good conditions Denver wins handily. Sea may be great on defense, but Den is the most profilic offense in history. However, the chances of the game conditions being favorable are slim to none. The line will be 2 or 3 or less to the Broncos. Give me the Seahawks and any points they're getting too.
