Video: Buckeyes Land in South Florida

By Jason Priestas on December 29, 2013 at 12:27p

The Ohio State football team and support units have touched down at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Jet Center. The team is settled into its headquarters – the Westin Diplomat – and will hold a closed practice at 1 p.m.

On the news front, defensive end Noah Spence did not make the flight with the team.

Urban Meyer did not rule Spence out for Friday night's game, so we're in a bit of a holding pattern with news on this front.

Meyer also confirmed that true freshman safety Vonn Bell will start for Ohio State in its nickel package. Since the Buckeyes will roll nickel most of the night against Clemson, this will effectively be his first start as a Buckeye.

Hope we find out soon what is going on with Noah, the sus-Spence is killing me ...

I hope Noah and his family are all right.  I lost my great uncle last Monday, and any negative personal issues around the holidays suck.

Team is staying at the Westin Diplomat, anyone know which one it is there are several here in South Florida.  Thanks in advance.

So Vonn is starting in the Nickel, with Tyvis going back to safety.
That is somewhat interesting, we have an entire off season, spring ball, fall camp, etc for it to change but assuming that CB2 gets a medical redshirt, does that mean that Powell and Bryant would be the safeties with Bell manning the nickel spot?

I'm glad Bell is finally starting.. I believe they should play Marcus a lot more then what they do cause he is a force on the pass rush

I don't think he's yet an every down type of guy but we will see a lot more of him if Spence cannot play.

Ha! 703, quick to adopt the Mizzou bro avatar. Well played.

So this effectively removes Pitt Brown from the starting lineup? I'm excited to see Vonn Bell starting! He could be the next legendary Buckeye defensive back.

Cupcake balls!

This actually leaves a lot for discussion. Someone is benched, but we don't know if it's Brown or Powell.

You might not, but the rest of us do!

Assuming and knowing are very different.

I agree that if Spence does not play, it is a loss, especially against a passing team like Clemson.
Time for someone else to step up.  And if whoever steps up is a run stopper, that is a bonus, because as good of a pass rusher as Spence is, he has proven to be at best, an average run stopper.  And even that may be kind.

Wow, that really sucks.  Spence is needed.
