Oregon Duck fans in happier times

Remember when Oregon seemed like the hottest team in the country? That was a quaint month. The Ducks got absolutely rolled in Arizona today, getting out Oregon'd by a team led by old friend of the program, Rich Rodriguez. Oregon gave up over 300 yards of rushing in the loss.

At least we know the Ducks won't be too disappointed about missing out on a Rose Bowl trip.

Let's talk about the merits of a two loss Oregon team.

Oregon clearly wasn't playing Oregon football so this loss can't be held against them.

Brandon26841's picture

I don't see how the score was so lopsided... hell, Oregon out-gained them and put up 500+ yards.

I guess those 3 turnovers were the difference.

If Oregon is an elite team, and Arizona beat them, Arizona must be elite too. Man, that Pac-12 is just such an elite conference.

Don't forget Arizona's Elite Coach.

AFLAC!!!!!!

Battles are sometimes won by generals; wars are nearly always won by sergeants and privates. Football is no different, the guys down in the trenches win the games, not the coach.

What happened to the "No one can hang with our offense" talk from the duck fans? I guess it's good to see an old friend of THE program doing good for himself. ;)

I guess they can't put up 40 on anybody after all.

Have fun at the holiday bowl Huff and Thomas who said the Rose Bowl was no big deal.  Mark my word, this is the beginning of the end for Oregon.  No name head coach.  They will start to have 9-3 years, then 8-4.  The tide is changing for them, they won't be chic anymore.  Don't believe me, look back when Colorado was good 20 years ago and wore all black as one of the first schools to do and got a lot of urban kids from California.  The mojo faded and they have sucked since. Oregon has no tradition.

I totally enjoyed watching them get exposed for the gimmicky system offense team that they are today, and against Stanford.
But I'm afraid I have to disagree with your Colorado analogy. Oregon might not have tradition, but this isn't the beginning of the end for them. They have Phil Knight and Nike's billions. They can replace the no-name HC with a more expensive one. They will stay chic because Nike will want them to stay chic, and Nike runs college sports to a large extent. Colorado had none of these advantages in the 90s. I don't think Oregon will ever win it all, but saying they're gonna start having 8-4 seasons is premature when they have the deepest pockets in the nation backing them up financially.

Totally with you. Thought the Oregon coach looked like he was in way over his head when interviewed after the Stanford game. Pretty evident he is losing the team and they have no team leaders. Nice knowing you, ducks.

I'm in agreement with MTROTB, Oregon is going to be in a decline for the next few years at least.

So wait a minute; I thought the considered opinion of 11W was that Rodriguez was a joke.  A gimmicky incompetent.  Does he return to being a serious offensive genius now that he is at Arizona and schooling the likes of #5-ranked Oregon?

I cannot stand RichRod. Ever since he sang Josh Groban to save his job, I disliked the man. And he did kind of screw WVU over. I think he is a classless punk.  Much like Bert. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Brady Hoke however, I have respect for, even if I dont' think he's that good of a coach(great recruiter though, for the most part). My attitude towards Brady shifted when he offered tickets to the OSU/UM game to that 11 year old Buckeye fan that named his brain tumor "Michigan" and said he was going to "beat Michigan." Great story. Total class move by Brady.

Buckeyedude, you should read the book Three and Out by John Bacon. I always thought RichRod was a bit of a buffoon, and I, too, hated what he did to WVU on behalf of my West Virginian uncle.
For some reason, I read the book. And, all I can say is, it humanized RichRod for me. Plus, I got to read about three straight maulings of TTUN by tOSU, with other awesome TTUN losses sprinkled in. Anyways, just read it. As others have said, RichRod kinda got the short end of the stick at both TSUN and WVU.

I think lately the opinion has been that he deserved at least another year. I don't think there's any question he's a successful coach. It just didn't work at Michigan in 3 years or less. I don't know if it would've ever worked at Michigan long term.

Kalamazoo Steve's picture

I don't think anyone here ever thought he was a serious offensive genius. Your president & AD thought so. We knew better.

3cent's picture

The offense was not the problem when he was at Michigan, actually it was really good. It was the defense that sucked.

onetwentyeight's picture

Or ... maybe the UM fanbase/donors/alumni/Michigan-man culture/unrealistic expectations were so unhealthy and stifling that together they managed to wipe out the talent of a decent coach, who has had success everywhere ELSE he's been? It's not you, it's me, etc? Lol.

Said it above. No heart. Not sure which is worse. The loss after them saying the Rose Bowl would be a disappointment or them looking like defeated little bitches while the game was still not over vs Stanford.
