Report: Luke Fickell Did Not Interview for Florida Atlantic Job

OSU Co-Defensive Coordinator, Luke Fickell

Yesterday, The Sun Sentinel reported FAU athletic director Pat Chun was in Columbus and had interviewed the man assumed to be at the top of his target list: Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Luke Fickell. Roughly 24 hours later, Tim May has put the kibosh on that:

Ah, the smoke-filled back parlor rooms, where US presidential candidates and FAU coaching hires are christened. Fickell makes about $100,000 more dollars a year than Carl Pelini made coaching FAU last year, so FAU was always going to have to spend to get him. Credit to Carl Pelini, however, whose resignation has made the FAU coaching hunt more interesting than it has ever been expected to be.

With this and Gene Smith, have to wonder if some media member is trying to manufacture controversy at Ohio State.

The postgame show is brought to you by... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it...

I could never imagine anyone wanting to do that.

I'm glad that was crap.  There's no doubt that Fickell and others will get some opportunities--I like this staff just the way it is right now--undefeated.

Glad that didn't happen!! Would like to keep our coaching staff intact, at least for another few years. May be unrealistic if our boys keep winning though.

That'd be spectacular, but there's just no way. Withers, Herman, and Fickell all have varying degrees of HC experience, and are 21-0(and counting). It'd take a miracle to keep them all together.

I stopped believing stories that begin with "Report:" long ago.

I tend to believe that there is a kernel of truth to anything like this, which can always be a pre-lim are you interested. I'm very confident he will be elsewhere in 2014. Don't see Florida Atlantic being the place though.

No interview. ...just coffee and a job offer.

Who first broke this story? Tim May or the paper(s) in Florida? Seems like incredibly shoddy journalism. Florida and journalism being an oxymoron.

There will be better opportunities for Fickle.  I see him eventually moving on to be a HC at a MAC school in time.

I think Fickell is as Scarlet & Gray as they get. I believe it takes a fairly decent job to pry him away from OSU. He may or may not talk to people about jobs like this, but the fact is DC at OSU is a whole lot more glamorous & noticeable than HC at FAU...unless your into cocaine & weed of course. Then the FAU HC is suddenly talked about quite a bit. Regardless, I think he only leaves for a job that pays well & where he can really further his career.

I wonder if OSU has worn out Fickell a bit though...
With all the Fire Fickell blog talk, and people calling in talking about how bad the D is...I wonder if he's a bit fatigued. Thats one of the reasons that I get upset when people want Luke gone...
How often can you get a true Buckeye, who has been as loyal, AND SUCCESSFUL, as he has been to lead your defense? I for one still hope he continues to gain experience from Urban, on top of what he learned from JT, and he gets considered 10-15 years down the road...

I hear you, it's a shame fans have treated him the way they have. Hopefully he understands that fans are fans & hasn't let it get to him.

I would be willing to bet that Luke has never read an OSU blog and really doesn't care about the opinions expressed in them.  The only
opinion that matters is Coach Meyer's.

I like Fickell. I hope he stays. After reading Ross's D breakdown I think we're going to see similar to last year a D that gets better as the season goes on. Plus he's die-hard buckeye and a great recruiter.
