Ohio State Holds Steady in Polls

By DJ Byrnes on September 29, 2013 at 1:29p

Ohio State stayed within striking distance of the Oregon Ducks in the Coaches Poll, which is part of the BCS formula. The Buckeyes are third in the Coaches Poll and fourth in the AP. They take on No. 15/16 Northwestern, setting up one of the biggest showdowns in the history of Northwestern football Saturday night.

ESPN College Gameday will be one hand and Mike and Mike will originate live from the Evanston campus on Friday.

As I predicted, people nationally weren't going to be shocked by the Buckeyes tying the point spread.

The most "loud mouth, disrespect" poster on 11W.

Cue the, "we're getting no respect" chatter in 3...2...1.
Even though we are still ranked 3/4.

I am less surprised by this than Lane Kiffin getting fired or Bert not knowing how to walk properly.

If we blew out Wisky by 40 these polls would not have changed, at least for us.

You're right, about "these polls."
It's this poll, that would have shown how a forty-point blow-out over Wisky has a long-range and positive, effect:

Whatever coach gave Clemson a first-place vote should be punched in the nut sack... He obviously didn't watch the Clemson-NC State game that was a gift-wrapped victory handed to them by a blind ref.

It was probably Dabo

The offseason begins when your season ends. Even then there are no days off.

Color me unconcerned unless we're dropping in the polls. Like it or not we are in the "Boise State/TCU" car seat this year given the lack of quality opponents, waiting for a loss by someone ahead of us in order to move up. Fact appears to be that we'll likely not win impressively enough to garner any more votes. No amount of whining like a nine year old girl with gum in her hair is going to change that.
An impressive win over NW won't help much either IMO. NW's historical residency as the doormat of the B1G,will supersede any raised eyebrows as a result of a Buckeye Nation blowout in Evanston.
All we can do is enjoy the ride, cry about Vanderbilt backing out and Cal sucking ass, I'm fine with that, I won't enjoy winning any less. We're all big boys, and we're not going away anytime soon.

FWIW, we've lost votes in both AP and Coaches each week.  We'll be 5th if we don't spank the Nerds.

If we are the only 5-0 team in the country, shouldn't we be ranked #1?

Come November, OSU will be undefeated and all those teams around them will be knocking each other off.
Wisky might be the biggest challenge to this team, and Northwestern might be the highest ranked, but UM is still undefeated and can win their division and we will have to beat them back to back. That will mean something to the rankings.
A 13-0 undefeated B1G Champion Ohio State team is hard to ignore, especially after defeating its arch rival twice! Style points couldn't compare to that.

I saw a UFO once.......it told me to have a goodyear!

I wish I shared your confidence.  This is what has to happen for us to get into one of the two top spots.
1.  Bama loses to LSU
2.  Clemson beats FSU and loses to South Carolina
3.  Stanford beats Oregon and Washington
4.  Washington or UCLA beat Stanford
We need at least two of those for things to happen, IMO. I can see number 2 happening, but wouldn't count on LSU beating Bama, and I think the winner of Oregon Stanford will be undefeated.

I think you are mostly right in that we need things to happen this year, but if we do go undefeated (hardly guaranteed) the odds are heavily in favor that we go. It's just not very often that there are 3 or more undefeated teams in a given year. Plus, although we are needing help, OSU still carries cache nationally among voters, as evidenced by our ranking with only one quality win thus far.
