Announcing the Windy City Social

The Windy City Social, presented by Eleven Warriors

It's 2013, the kids are all grown up, and Northwestern is a big game on the schedule all of a sudden. If things go according to plan, this game will be a matchup of top 15 opponents. At night. In a town with amazing food, fantastic public transportation and 30,000 bars.

We can't make it out to every bar, but we did settle on the perfect one. Join your friends from Eleven Warriors, members of the Ohio State Alumni Club of Chicago and the best Buckeye fans in the 312 for a Windy City Social at Mickeys Bar & Patio [Map] the night before the game.

We'll gather at 7 p.m. (Central Time) for a welcoming cocktail reception hosted by Eleven Warriors and the Alumni Club of Chicago. A $5 donation will get you a souvenir stadium mug and domestic drafts and well drinks from 7-8 p.m. We'll eat, drink, be merry and talk about all the things the Buckeyes will do to Northwestern on Saturday.

But that's not all.

The Ohio State Alumni Club of Chicago is hosting CHIGATE, a massive party Saturday, just two blocks east of Ryan Field, next to the Central Station on the Purple Line. Your $30 ticket to the tailgate covers burgers, dogs, subs and salads along with sweet treats and two beer tickets (extra drink tickets will be available for $4).

Tailgate with the Ohio State Alumni Club of Chicago

You can purchase tickets for the tailgate online, or at the social on Friday night. If you already have a ticket, you can pick up your wristband for the tailgate at Friday's social.

Whether you make it out for the social Friday night or the tailgate on Saturday (or both), we're looking forward to hanging and talking Ohio State.

I'm excited! Will be making the 2.5 hour drive north for this even if I don't have a ticket to the game. Go Bucks!

Columbus to Pasadena: 35 hours.  "We're on a road trip through the desert looking for strippers and cocaine... and Rose Bowl wins!"

Is there anything like this going on in San Francisco for the Cal game?

"because we couldn't go for three"

Jason Priestas's picture

Unfortunately, we're not doing anything for that game, but I'm sure the Bay Area alumni club will have something.

Pedro's Cantina, near AT&T Park, will be hosting an event for OSU fans the evening before the OSU/Cal game. Chimdi Chekwa will be a special guest that evening.

Still not sure if there will be anything organized on the day of the game, however.

Can't wait. I've already requested off on the 4th. Gonna drive up from Columbus on Thursday night methinks. Anyone have any idea what tix are going for? I think I remember hearing Northwestern is going to be doing some sort of alternative pricing for this game.

I watched a NCAA tourney game vs Syracuse a couple years ago at Jake Melnicks during one of my Chicago trips and ran into quite a few OSU fans. Wish I was going to be in town for this one. Sounds like a blast!

Oh, I'm there.

11W in my hometown. I'm there. Who from the staff is in?

Jason Priestas's picture

I'm thinking at least four of us will be there, maybe more. I know Ramzy, Chris and I will be there.

Even though Mickeys is a great OSU bar with some great deals (also a browns bar, I'm a Bengal fan) I'd like to bring attention to McGee's!  Living in Chicago for 2 years and visiting most of the 5+ Buckeye bars in Chicago, McGee's has an amazing environment.
Again mickeys is great, but if people are coming to enjoy the multiple OSU bars in Chicago for the NW game I had to mention McGee's!
11W staff - have you thought about visiting or participating in any of the other OSU bars like McGee's?

Jason Priestas's picture

McGee's is owned by a Michigan grad/fan. Mickeys is owned by an Ohio State fan.

...And so ends the Mickey's/McGee's debate.

If you are in the Loop and looking for a great (non-steak) dinner, check out Sunda.  Great sushi and quite the scene.  Or just pop in for a drink and the views.  I go there every trip I take to Chicago.
Reservation recommended if you plan to dine:
