"Four years from now, why, you'll be walking out of here with a national title... I don't expect anything less."
Unless we over-sign recruits and we have to send you to a FCS school to make room for the next incoming freshmen.

The guy was a master motivator to say the least, he took a lot of average recruits, had them buy into a system, and then turned them into champions. I still hate that team and everything about them.

Love the Bear. An absolute legend.

One reason I actually like Bama. If there was ever a coach that I put up there with on Mount Coachmore with Woody, its the Bear.

Not hard to see why Bear Bryant was so successful, excellent clip.

Legend without a doubt. Alabama was always my favorite non B1G team. (My grandma is from Alabama.)  it's hard for me to root for them because of the rest of the SEC.
He also said this:

"Our game plan is first year, a .500 season. Second year, a conference championship. Third year, undefeated. Fourth, a national championship. And by the fifth year, we'll be on probation, of course."

If you don't appreciate what guys like Bear Bryant, Bo Schembechler, and Woody Hayes did for college football and coaching in general, you don't deserve to be a sports fan.  They are the pinnacle of coaching college football...

+1....and their legacies are a great part of the sport's history.

The days of the multi-decade, iconic head coaches are a thing of the past I'm afraid.

I welcome Urban to prove me wrong though....

I fear you may be right. These days the number of cool uniforms, the comfort of the facilities and the media attention are on an even level with the quality of the coach and (to a much lesser degree) how you might grow as a person. It is all about the bling.

Ive been fortunate to have spent time at the U of Alabama for some research, if you get a chance to visit, do it, its intriguing in the college football sense because you wonder why players go there, but theres one thing for sure, Bryant-Denny takes over the landscape and can be seen from a far...I honestly believe, though, if Meyer stays at OSU for a while, the Buckeyes will surpass the Tide soon enough...Columbus > Tuscaloosa

Bear set the path for urban to tosu with the " Momma came a calling" quote when discussing why he left the power at texas am he had built.

While I loathe Nick Saban, I have always thought the Bear was a great coach and even better man.  Because of him, I've always had great respect for the Alabama program and their accomplishments.

Great clip.  The Bear is a legend, great to see some of the old school coaches like that.  He was well before my time, so really cool to see.

Of course I don't know jip about the bear. I've always thought that he was to bama as to what Woody was to TOSU. So I have no beef with him. And really I don't have any beef with saban. He wins a lot. He gets his teams ready to play ball. He gets them to execute his game plan. He motivates. He inspires. That's all I know of him. I learned my lesson of talking bad about coaches. You never know when one will be fired or hired.
