PHONE'S RINGING -- IT'S URBAN ON THE LINE
John Cooper, who guided Ohio State to 111 victories and five Top 10 national finishes between 1988-2000, turns 76 today.
Happy birthday, Coop!
I always liked Coop when he was coaching at Ohio State great recruiter so Happy Birthday Coop.
Happy Birthday Coach, and congratulations on your induction into the OSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
"Success - it's what you do with what you got" - Woody Hayes
This guy was just a smidge away from bringing us two national titles. So close. He had some great, great teams.
I of course wish he'd understood the Game's importance a but more, but regardless he was a great coach.
Also, it should not be forgotten that he brought us this:
Which, according to Pitt's webpage, took place in basketball. You go on learning, Pitt.
I assume they are trying to move it toward being lost to the annals of history. Basketball page today, lacrosse page tomorrow, gone soon enough.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. ~ Bruce Lee
Haha. It would be pretty funny if they did move it around from sport to sport.
We don't give a damn for the whole state of Michigan, we're from O-HI-O!
Happy Birthday, Coop! My gift to you is a bag of Mark May's tears.
Happy Birthday Coach Coop!

Happy 76th Coach! I hope you have a great one.

Happy Birthday Coach!
Happy Birthday, Coach Cooper! Still working for the Buckeyes!

JOHN COOPER'S TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes wins the game!
2. Play for and make the breaks when one comes your way ---score!
3. If at first the game or breaks go against you, don't slow down, put on more steam!
4. Press the kicking game for it's here the breaks are made!
5. Lineman protect your passer and kicker, rush their passer and kicker. Backs protect your passer and kicker.
6. Be mentally alert at all times ---leave nothing to chance!
7. Be determined to carry out your assignment!
8. Oskie, pursue and cover relentlessly --- here is the winning edge.
9. Carry the fight to the opponents and keep it there all afternoon. Hit hard and hit fast.
10. Win the surest way!
"Knee benders are game winners"
HAPPY BIRTHDAY COACH COOPER!!!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
Happy Birthday Coach! Fun fact, Richard Petty was also born on this great day in 1937.
Happy Birthday, Coach! I hope you have many, many more! :)
Happy birthday, Coach.
Ah, yes. King Richard.
76 - wow, I'm feeling old.
It's also Jordan Hall's b-day. Expecting great things from him this year.
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE FIND THE SUNBUBBLE COMMERCIAL?
The most bittersweet relationship between a coach and a fanbase in all of college football if you ask me.
If he only could have been more successful against UM (i.e. '2-10-1' was more like '5-5-1' or '6-4-1'), media and fans would have him on the same pedestal as Woody and Tressel (and now Meyer).
From 1993 through 1998, Cooper's teams had a legitimate shot at a national title every year except 1994 (ironically the same year he broke the egg vs UM for his first win against them as OSU head coach). I understand 1998 was MSU's doing, but if Coop had led OSU to a win vs. UM at least once or twice during 93-97, he could have 2 national titles under his belt and things would have played out much differently at OSU (no Tressel in 2001, no 2OT win vs Miami, no Pryor, no probation, no 'can't beat the SEC' stigma, etc.).
I think OSU's lack of bowl success under Coop was more due to each bowl game being such a huge disappointment in the aftermath of the Saturday before Thanksgiving than it was with choking vs the SEC (or whoever they lost to).
I know Woody had some elite teams and Tressel had a couple elite teams, but I am not sure if any OSU coach in our history had the amount of talent from 93-98 than Cooper put on the field. OSU pretty much fielded NFL farm teams every year during that run. And it was lineman and skill players, not one or the other.
Well done North. Happy Birthday Coach Cooper. I seem to always overlook the positive aspects of his career at tOSU. It all goes back to a certain fall game, an ex-girlfriend, her TV, and the dog...I digress. Congrats Coach.
An angry fan...rooting for an angry team...led by angry coaches
Happy, Happy, Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday Coach!! Hope you had a great one and many more to come!
A friend of mine met him on the street once, and said he was gracious and seemed like a genuinely nice man. All is forgiven in my book.
Happy B-day John!
Two blondes were driving to Disneyland. The sign said: Disneyland Left... So they started crying and headed home.
Happy birthday coach.
Bury me in my away jersey, with my buckeye blanket. A diehard who died young. Rip dad.
Happy Bday Coach Cooper. He helped raise the bar of expectations of Buckeye football from a bunch of 3 loss seasons in the 80's to the doorstep of the NC in the 90's. Team speed greatly improved under Coop and he put a ton of guys in the NFL.
Its good to be the king
