My favorite part about the Illibuck is that is used to be a live turtle... I imagine it didn't live terribly long with football players racing across the field with the thing over their heads every year in celebration. Wonder how big it was?

From what I could find, it looks like a real turtle was only used for a short number of years (1925-1927) and died, and so they went with wooden turtles. I couldn't find any info on the live turtle's size.

Legend says that it was a land turtle. One of the Illinois fraternities put the turtle in a full bathtub and it croaked.

Was out of the loop traveling last week and realized today that I missed the poster debut. Couldn't wait to track it down. Worth the wait! This one is amazing! Absolutely amazing. Great work, Walt!
