OSU Lands Big Fish in Bosa
Ohio State may have landed their biggest fish thus far in the 2013 recruiting class, as Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas DL Joey Bosa has committed to Ohio State, giving the Buckeyes 12 commits in the class of 2013.
Bosa was long considered to be favoring Alabama, but took a tour to the Midwest last week and "fell in love" with Ohio State while in Columbus. He enjoyed his time in Buckeyeland so much that he decided to make a return trip this week for the Spring Game, where his feelings about the university were made firm and he gave a verbal commitment to Urban Meyer and the OSU coaching staff.
Bosa is regarded as a top two defensive end in the nation and when he gets to campus he will join of the of the coutnry's best units that will include Adolphus Washington, Se'Von Pittman, Tommy Schutt, Noah Spence, and others. Everyone knows Urban Meyer loves winning games in the trenches (see: 2006 National Championship Game) and Bosa just gives the Buckeye head man more bullets in the barrel to use on opposing offenses.
This is a huge commitment for Ohio State as Bosa is one of the nation's premeir players. We will try to catch up with Joey to hear more on his verbal pledge to Ohio State in the coming days.

Absolutely huge
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
AHHHHH! You guys tricked me with the double gray box! I guess I will just have to wait a few minutes for Neal.
Dave and Alex - what we have here is a failure to communicate!
No worries, great news, GO BUCKS!
Huge. Great to hear. What a start to the work week. Our D-line is going to be very good this year and possibly the best in the country in coming years.
Now let's get some elite O-line and WR prospects!
With all the Bosa talk, and speculation, over the weekend I have kept my mouth shut and my comments to myself with this Bosa saga but, now that it is official, i would like to say...YESSSSSSS!!!
Welcone to Buckeye Nation, and The Silver Bullets, BIG BEAR! Welcome to the Buckeye Family!
I wonder how many new followers he gets today?......
Can't wait to see the kid all ripped up following a little work with the weight staff...
I thought about this eariler and it is an absolutely scary thought. This kid is massive on his own at age 17, can't wait to see what the new and improved OSU weight training will turn him into.
Welcome to Buckeye Nation JOey. Now let's add some OL and WR and start this football season already.
Don't give up... Don't ever give up.
Talk about a nose for the football, he must have some sort of magnet in his brain for the football. Wow
Lost Nut in Michigan
My favorite player after watching highlight tapes of most of our targets. Huge! I love the intensity he plays with (along with that fact that he was nearly unblockable for one of the nations top HS teams last season)!
Cam Heyward 2.0??
John Simon 2.0!
Bosa = JJ Watt in my book....I know not a Buckeye but a darn good player and a STUD in the NFL even as a rookie
Hey, if anyone of these guys chase QBs like JJ Watt chased Pryor, I will do backflips!
and then proceed to the hospital because I most likely broke my neck!
Squirrel, I suppose you saw film posted here, of Bosa doing a standing back flip? If he can do it at 6'6 and 260 lbs. you might be able to without emergency medical services, you think? HaHa
haven't seen the film and I think I never will. I like what I already know!
and no, Bosa may be a beast at 6'6'' 260 but he has athletic talent! I am 6'2'' without any talent! No chance!
I might try a cartwheel instead! Could still seriously injure something!
Bosa in high school = JJ Watt as a senior at Wisco
+1
He's THAT good right now? Did I read your comment right?
Wow...
I'm starting to see what Urban was busy doing when Michigan was snagging all those other recruits. This is turning into a great class. Like Urban said, our D is going to be "ridiculous" maybe this year, for sure the following two seasons.
Joey Bosa 1.0
Hell yea!
Make Will-Way your Way!
Not going to watch the tape, haven't seen any tape on his play. I like this guy just based on his attitude and pure buckeye spirit! I don't need to see him play to know he will be a dominant force that will bring OSU to the promise land!
Booyah!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome to Buckeye Nation, Joey!
Saw the video a couple months ago and watching it again I am amazed by the pursuit on the ball carriers.

A huge coup over TSUN, and the pipeline to St Aquinas continues to flow!!!
Respectfully,
Larryp713
more of a coup over Alabama, which in my mind is a bigger deal for a guy from FL.
I don't think he ever had ttun as a serious contender (even if he claimed they were in his top 4). at the end of the day it was us and Alabama and the last two weekends sealed it for us.
Agreed, this one was Saban vs. Meyer, Michigan was never a player.
Evidently, Hoke's promise of a 4-year pass to the Chinese buffett across from Michigan Stadium wasn't enough to swing Bosa...
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
No way Hoke would offer that, it would mean less buffet for him.
I can't wait to see opposing quarterbacks running away in terror, doing their best John Candy impersonation ala the Great Outdoors, "Big Bear chase me!!!!!!!"
"Because the rules won't let you go for three." - Woody Hayes
THE Ohio State University
Who's the other guy that committed? Lewis Neal, haven't heard much about him, anyone have anything...
Welcome to the family Joey. Do you guys think we're done at DL?
Were Von Bell away from a National Title level defense. Gotta some more playmakers on Off. What skill guys are we in play for?
Follow me @jaythesportsguy
Bosa is a monster....Neal...I'm not sold on him at all and would rather see us pulling an OL or WR. Who is our other ATH besides Jain Marshall in the 2013 class? I'm a little concerned there is no big time playmaker other than Braxton Miller this year and nothing really showing up on the radar yet for next year. We keep getting Defensive commmitments...Am I missing something?
I agree we need more at WR, but don't forget Ezekiel Elliott. He's a playmaker
I believe this is all gravy at this point. Marshall is the real deal and there is talent on this team besides Braxton. Dunn is something special I tell ya! JT Barrett is the future. Stoney, Heuerman brothers, Boren brothers, Thomas is going to be good.
Think of it like this, Urban is getting into all of these top programs across the nation. The player that is committing now might not be the commit they are working on getting. Not that Neal and Sprinkle are not good enough, but gotta keep in mind about the future of the recruiting trail! Bosa is a beast but the extra special thing about him is he is from St. Aquinas! If Urban can pipeline them, speed will no longer be a problem in the future!
I will also add, a recruit is a recruit. I much rather have a guy that wants to be at OSU than a guy that doesn't know what he wants!
A kid that shouldn't be forgotten is Ricquan Southward- I think he's going to be the best WR in the '12 class by the time it's all said and done. Sticking with the general theme of some posters, I'll call him: Santonio 2.0 :)
If you ain't a Silver Bullet, you're a target
Defense wins championships!! Ohio State won one with Krenzel at QB - COME ON MAN!
Edit: No disrespect to Crag Krenzel!
@DANAVH4: Defense wins Championships! IMO, Coach Meyer is loading up on defense until he can get the explosive offensive weapon he needs/wants!
I don't disagree...I guess I'm just anxious to see that break away speed. Did you catch any of the Arkansas spring game highlights from over the weekend? Holy crap they had multiple burners on offense that were just lightning fast. I'm looking forward to seeing that at Ohio State...the athletes that once they are in the open field....they are just gone...no catching them.
You mean like Ted Ginn? I hear you man! We havent had any speed like that since Teddy left and im dying to see some speed on the field!
WELCOME to the Buckeye Nation Joey!!! You will have a blast destroying Big Ten offenses - especially baby Bret's Badgers and AACC!!!
Jesus - Urban is building a freakin monster on defense!!! They are just going to be absolutely scary starting this year!!!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
I think the trip to Thurmans and finishing off the Thurmanator sealed the deal for Ohio State on this one!! :)
I tried to go there after spring game. 2.5 hour wait! If we didn't have a kid with us, I would have waited! Will have to make a special trip!
The Short North wasn't that busy post-Spring Game, I went to Northstar and Jeni's, and the lines were almost non-existent.
He's big and can do a standing backflip #justsayin
I actually like the comparison to Cam Heyward ... I think Bosa is more athletic though ...
I realize you can never have too much depth, but wow, are we gonna move to 5 DL front? How are we gonna play alll these guys?? I'm surprised that he chose us, being its such a crowded position on our roster...
Honestly though it was down to Ohio State and Bama. Picking Ohio State means he may have ended up on a team with less competition where he's more likely to get playing time right away. Crazy to say it, with the talent the program has pulled in the last couple of years, but Bama is always loaded on the D-Line.
Probably rotate 8-10 guys there. Meyer often listed 5 or 6 guys when asked who his starting d-line was at UF.
The best d-lines rarley play the same for guys play the whole game. If you can have a killer 7-8 man rotation with little drop off from the starters to guys 7 and 8 you got something special. LSU had a pretty killer rotation like this last year, thats the kind of thing Urb is going after now.
Obviously, but your rotation usually includes either younger guys, or guys who are good coming in for one specific situation (ex. passing downs only).... if the scouting turns out to be accurate, seems like we have 4 guys, all young, who could all be all conference!!
I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised Bosa chose us, I mean Spence, Washington, Pittman, and don't forget Miller from the previous year, and Nathan Williams still this year... wow
and Simon! can never forget about Simon!
(amongst others)
Not that I'm not excited about having a lights-out defensive line. But I'd sure like to see some 4-star recruits getting tapped for our OLs, WRs, and DBs.
Alex, how many schollies are left at this point and where do you see UFM's focus going forward?
#fistpumpgobuckeyes
Woodard and Burrows?
Yea I agree with Redstorm... got two great DBs in this class already, not too mention Bogard and Reeves in 2012 class...
now WR, well I agree with you there...
and Roby will be around for a couple of years. Thompson I believe is a very good recruit. DBs are not that bad.
I guess I am being a bit glass is half full. I like the talent across the board and whoever else is brought in will be gravy.
Lisle in at OL and Pocic close too from what I hear....WR we have Marshall and I think Quick is high on OSU along with Shelton Gibson....DB we have Thompson, Woodard, and Burrows, with another one possible....we will be fine there
I think there will be 18-20 in this class so 5-7 more?
Hey Alex....love the site. I've lived in Phoenix for Ten years but lived the first 30 years in Ohio.
Question: Do you see any other commitments coming today from the Spring Game visits or maybe even in the next couple days?
Thanks!
yes watch for at least one I am pretty sure of to pop at any time, but my guess is later today
Wait is this one not Neal?
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
I'm guessing Heuerman...
I figured Heuerman would just wait till Friday, kinda hoping maybe a little bit of a suprise like Pocic, but Heuerman 4 days early would be nice too.
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Is Heuerman really that big of a deal though? The team has some quality TE's already and one recruit in this class. With the limited number, is another TE really a must? I'd love to see that schollie applied somewhere else. Am I way off base here? I'm not knocking the kid at all. Certainly if he's a can't miss type recruit I'm all for it, that's why I wonder if I'm missing something here with this kid.
Yes he is. Urban uses his TEs alot more than what we are used to seeing. Plus, I was asking earlier about possible FB recruits since there is none in the pipeline behind Boren. One of the TEs can move over to FB or at least a HB. Plus I keep thinking about how Urban is friends with Bill Bilichick and how Bill used his 2 TEs. Heuerman and Baugh would be a nice version of GRonk and Hernandez!
I loved how Hernandez ran as a RB in the playoffs. With a strong Oline, a 6'6'', 260 lb. RB would be pretty nasty if he was fast enough.
Just read Heuerman buzz earlier today from Alex, sounds like it is Heuerman
Favorite Buckeye: Obviously BJ Mullens
Not Neal....could pop literally any second....may not 100% happen today but I think a lot of people are expecting it to
It's not Neal so there will likely be a 3rd today, or soon at least. I just got home and read the story on Braxton and didn't scroll down any further. Came back to the computer and looked and there was 2 new commits. Good day for OSU football. Especially if this 3rd is a stud O Lineman or a playmaking WR.
Supposedly heard it's supposed to be Friday the 27th...but think the same thing that he's going to say sooner than that because his buds are already making it public;-)

W the defense on the field 40 min due to our quick strike hurry up offense I bet we play 10-12 DL in a rotation to keep them fresh and fierce.
BOSA!... our defensive line has the potential to be the best Ohio State has ever seen. Washington, Pittman, Schutt, Spence, Bosa...this is scary. Throw in Shazier, Grant, Anzalone, and the LBs from this class. Silver Bullets are back.
and DBs that are being told to ballhawk like never before. Offense might not have to put 60 on the board. The defense might put up 20 by themselves!
And you didn't even mention billy price...scary how good we could be at the D Line
Sorry Urban, Woody is still my favorite
Ha, when it takes Alex this long to answer questions he's working on a ______ makes 14 story!
[Heuerman]
Those who stay will be CHAMPIONS!
~Bo Schembechler
This kid just mauls people. When Marotti gets with him well........DAMN! Silver bullets are going to be frightening for '13 and beyond. Great to see Natl champ caliber players lining up. Now to get to work on the O-line where we are way too thin ! Speed guys are great to have but if there is no blocking any scheme will fail. Welcome to Buckeye Nation big Joey!
Agreed about O Line, although we do have O'Connor, Dodson, and Elflein coming this Summer, and we have Lisle for 2013 so far. The three incoming 2012 players will help with depth and will likely get into the 2 deep fairly quickly, but I do agree that lack of depth at O Line seems pretty obvious right now. I'm sure the staff is working hard, and Pantoni also tweeted he was getting the coaches ready to hit the road for the next month.
Welcome Big Bear! Bring your mean streak.
It is going to be AWESOME watching them pummel AACC Kalis for the next 4 years!!! He'll have grass stained backside and cleat marks on the front side!!!
The best thing about Pastafarianism? It is not only acceptable, but advisable, to be heavily sauced
If this were basketball, Bosa would be a one and done player. Fantastic recruit for OSU.
Our defensive line is going to be GRIZZLY.
If nothing else: Marionaire.
Nasty comes to mind as well DJ.

I love how he punishes the o-lineman when the play is away from him... as if it's the o-lineman's fault. At first I thought maybe it's just the lack of quality o-lineman he goes up against, but this school probably plays top out of state teams huh?
@Timmeh
Yeah they played nationally ranked teams from Alabama and California. But the teams they play in state are also very, very good, they play in one of the larger school classifications. St. Thomas Aquinas has been a perennial powerhouse for a while in the state of FL. Their head coach was quoted as saying Bosa was the best defensive lineman he's seen in his 20 years of coaching and that's saying a lot with the types of teams he's put together and the opponents they've went up against.
Great news....
A big thanks to the 11W staff
O H I O is the Buckeye State
My God this kid looks strong. I'm afraid he actually might hurt somebody!
Would love to see him line up against Mrs. Kyle Kalis.
"Here officer, hold my beer while I find my license."
I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw Joey just push a center or guard 5 yards into the back field with his hand right in his grill. I love this kid!

Bosa is an absolute beast! Great speed for an athlete of that size and a mean streak to go along with it. Not to mention I hear he likes a good Thermanator;-) This and last years classes are full of defensive talent. Could be the makings of a championship...not to be cliche but championships are won with great defenses. I'd say A+ so far for Meyer and the staff on recruiting great defensive players!

Like a Bosa!!!!!!!
Welcome to The Ohio State University Big Bear!
I can't wait to see him next year when Mariotti has done his magic!
The kid is already a beast, soon he's going to be HULK!
Seriously, this D line is gonna murder someone.
And Shazier is supposed to do WHAT behind this line? Take a nap? Do some homework? This D-Line is going to make everyone else's job on the defense entirely to easy.
Because I couldn't go for three. -Woody-
We're seriously assembling a defense that in 2014 I believe will be equal to what we saw out of Alabama this year and dare I say... better? Maybe, it's very possible.
Spence, Washington, Shutt, Price, Bosa, Pittman, Bennett... not to mention Farris, Sprinkle, Hale, Miller... extremely scary.
Then you've got Shazier (if he stays), C. Grant, Anzalone, Perry, Marcus, Roberts, Neal.
And a secondary of Roby (if he stays), D. Grant, Woodard, Burrows, Reeves, Bogard, Thompson.
I haven't really actively kept track of much of our recruiting 2013 besides the obvious ones like Bosa, but even without any other commits on the defensive side this could be nasty if most of these guys pan out. I don't think it's out of the question at all to compare it to Alabama last season; it's just too bad that we have to wait 2 more years before we get to see this defense.
And then maybe a Raekwon McMillan as a freshman.... WOW
And you forgot Cam Williams and Perkins at linebacker
Oh lordy.
When hearing the news that Joey Bosa committed this is all I could think of
On paper...of course simply on paper right now, this defensive line could be All-American across the board. Schutt is an absolute monster and Spence is scary, scary good. If it were just them two I'd be fine, but throw in Washington, Pittman, and now Bosa...we may not need linebackers.
This dude is only 16 and he is already that big. Unreal.
I smile when I watch Bosas film. His team, ranked #2 in the country is playing the #3 ranked team in the country in several of those highlights. He is shown playing THEE BEST competition that he can play against in high school. And he imposes his will repeatedly. 16 years old.....I cannot wait to see this kid along with this entire D play at OSU. We are in for a treat.
I think it's safe to say we'll be seeing the best defensive line in Ohio State history in the coming years.
Anytime we can get a Florida recruit...especially a St. Thomas recruit is a huge get! Urban will continue to pull from Florida and other states like no other OSU coach in history.
