NCAA: No New Violations, No Failure to Monitor
Your weekend just got even better:
The NCAA has notified Ohio State University that it will not face charges of failing to appropriately monitor its football team as part of a memorabilia-sales scandal that brought down former Coach Jim Tressel.
The NCAA has not uncovered any new, unreported violations during its investigation and agrees with Ohio State that Tressel was the only university official aware of violations by his players and that he failed to report them.
"Other than (two redacted player names) and (Ted) Sarniak, there is no indication that Tressel provided or discussed the information he received ... with anyone else, particularly athletics administrators," the NCAA reported in an enforcement staff case summary.
In the summary that was delivered to Ohio State yesterday and released today, the NCAA again stresses that Tressel failed in his duty to report the violations and knowingly fielded at least two ineligible players.

I mean this is good and all, but all it does is validate what the level-headed of us have assumed all along. I'll still send a hearty "suck it" to those who believe everything they hear and wanted punishment as such, but they may well send it right back if the NCAA decides to send a message next month.
The NCAA after the GaTech ruling that they take each case individually. Their rulings are not about sending a "message" to anyone. The message has been out there for a long time.
I don't see how the NCAA could "send a message" without imposing a LOIC or FTM violation.
If they go heavy-handed without those two violations, they would essentially be turning the whole infraction process on it's ear.

If you can honestly defend an AD taking his coach off a written performance review system after the previous AD wrote him up a couple times for compliance issues as NOT indicative of possible failure to monitor, you're a gigantic ultramegahomer.

It appears that they may make him personally pay and be an example more so than he already has ... a Hall of Fame coach being, in essence, fired.
Tressel isn't going to coach again. IMO, having had the only job he ever wanted for 10 years, he is done.
From an NCAA point of view, Tress not wanting to coach only makes it politically easier for the NCAA to hammer him. To make him a pseudo example, knowing full well there will be little repercussions from Tress while serving notice to the rest of the coaches.
I think Tressel gets a 2-4 year Show Cause. When his "detention" expires, I hope he promptly gets hired by the Athletic Dept as one final "Suck it, haters!" to the cfb universe. And also because he's a great guy who has been a wonderful rep for the university.

Yeah up until a two years ago I was a regular at the Triangle Alumni Club gamewatches. Then the Skybox management decided to try to be both an ECU and tOSU gamewatch location AND STARTING RESERVING TABLES FOR ECU... WHICH THEY NEVER HAVE DONE FOR US... DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE TRIANGLE ALUMNI CLUB HAS HELD GAMEWATCHES THERE FOR AT LEAST 15 YEARS (probably closer to 20 at this point).
So two years ago when the "Buckeyes in NC" meetup/facebook group formed and started doing gamewatches at the Brickhouse -- I decided to switch over to that group.
So yeah, there's a good chance you've seen me at the Hilton bar. Did you have a location in there where you usually parked?

I lived there from 2009 - 2010 right after graduating. Lived right near Crabtree Valley mall and Brier Creek. I was at the skybox every Saturday (OSU) and Sunday (Browns) in the fall. I think we must have crowded the ECU ppl out cause it was almost all OSU on saturdays.
I work for a Fortune 300 company out of Cleveland and got a promotion back to HQ. I met a lot of cool people down there though and loved Raleigh / Wilmington, but I was actually happy to get back home. Missed Ohio too much. I need to get back down there for a weekend (hopefully in September for an away game) just to visit my friends and enjoy the city.

I have read most of the Tressel interview now and all I can say is JT is who we all thought he was. He was a football coach first and foremost. He deeply cares about his players. He screwed up this situation and he knows it, but I really truly don't believe that he did it with ill intentions in his mind regarding the NCAA.

Scientists aren't sure as to what exactly is causing the sudden increase but the leading theory is the combined tears of Mark May, Desmond Howard, Dennis Dodd, Bruce Hooley, etc. have been behind this new global threat. One scientist was quoted as saying he hadn't seen global sea levels increase this much since the "Tebow's Tears" incident immediately after the 2009 SEC Championship game.

I turned on Sports Center this morning to see how they were going to present this news.....please talk me out of doing such things in the future.
They refered to it as a "big win" for OSU and then went on to say "the Buckeyes seem to have some friends on the NCAA committee". At least I got to see the replay of Ozzie Gullien getting pelted with a foul ball.
