Buster Douglas Has Just Left Ann Arbor
We’ve got a recap of the Buckeye game coming, but as they say, stop the (Word)Presses: I-AA Appalachian State has just knocked off Michigan in the Big House. They’re already talking greatest upset in college football history on the WWL right now (because recent = great, right?). But, it is the FIRST FREAKIN’ TIME IN HISTORY A RANKED TEAM HAS BEEN DEFEATED BY A LOWER DIVISION TEAM.
The whole thing has us slightly conflicted, though. On one hand, I’m hard pressed to think of anything cooler happening to the Wolverines. A loaded team getting beat by a non D-I team in their home opener. Amazing. On the other hand, Southern Football Man (apologies to Mr. Young) will be doing a lot of chest thumping over the next few weeks and that’s slowly but surely creeping up the list of things that annoy me in life. It’s still ranked behind all-things Michigan, but it just passed getting attacked by cobras if that tells you anything.
We were lucky enough to score some screen shots of the Mlive forums taken at various stages of the collapse:
ASU goes up 21-14. First sign of trouble: fan notices announcers are being mean to his team.
ASU is now up 28-14 and the "Fire Carr" chorus is firing up.
Final. Recriminations.Wow. Seriously. Wow. I just hope that Brian doesn’t crawl into a hole and disappear for 4 months. Who will run the BlogPoll?
There’s probably a downside for Buckeye fans as well though: this will probably be Lloyd’s final season at the helm. So get your LLLLLOYD shirts now. They’ll be collector’s items!
UPDATE: Video goodness.

Unbelievable. I wonder if Hart and Long are still glad they decided to come back and play one more year with Chad Henne and Lloyd? 20-38 with 1 TD and 1 INT against a I-AA opponent is sad.

Ahh… A great day.
Chad Henne is a pile of sh*t.

the only thing that is holding me back from enjoying this to the fullest is the fact that this just gives SEC fans more reason to flap their gums about how great they are (even if none of their teams were involved).
which means i am one hell of a Cal fan tonight

I will never lose another Michigan argument again.
To all Michigan fans I have one comment for you…DIVISION 1-AA…ENOUGH SAID.

Seriously. What can they ever say again? Maybe they’ll come back with how high the academic standards are up there.
Holbrook weeps.
(Don’t forget the Irish getting spanked. Throw in the beautiful weather and 9/1/07 needs to be remembered some way.)

The folks in A2 still think this is all a rumor since they couldn’t find it on their TV.

The SEC fans are still pumping their chests. Not one of their teams lost to an unranked opponent.
