The White Reggie Bush
So, the video above, featuring highlights from 8 year-old Cody Paul, star of the 15-0 Pop Warner Los Alimitos Griffins is kind of blowing up right now. Word on the street is that USC and Pete Caroll already have a silent verbal out of the kid, but it’s not too late for the Vest to get in on the act.

cody paul. sounds eerily similar to another name i’ve heard (maurice clarett). i’m just saying, you’ve got to see the similarities. cody should ask mo if he’s enjoyin the campus…i mean his cell.

Wow… that kid gives hope to white kids everywhere that they too can play the foosball.

Just wondering what race the kids playing defense were.

overrated! Tons of missed called on the long runs. And 8 years old kids suck a football. they suck so bad that they make the one good kid look great! Even on the “great” short runs, he gets awesome blocks and is barely touched.

White kids at this age are a dime a dozen, he will either grow 2 more inches and always be considered a great athlete for his size and or grow alot and become a defensive lineman. Don’t fool yourself and think he is going to be a great running back.
Greg - July 19th, 2007 at 10:23 am - #
Greg, I don’t think anyone is fooling themselves here. We’re just enjoying some sick moves out of a youngster.

That kid is the truth. The music, however…a bit inappropriate.

I used to have skills just like that until I started rolling blunts and drinking 40’s!

Was the music in the backgroud throwing out the word “nigga” even though this kid is white?
Ironic don’t you think?

Cody Paul is 12 years old, not 8.

That’s pedestrian. He should come play that ball in the hood…he’d get messed up, and I ain’t even playin’

On the first kickoff return he switches the ball into his left hand just to be able to throw a stiff arm after breaking 32’s ankles. Pretty entertaining….

The kid is good…I just think its hilarious that people are asking what color the Defensive players are as if it matters. People hate when black folks talk about race but white guys blow loads in their pants over a 12 year old pop warner player(Even though every pop warner game has at least one running back as sick as this kid or better). I can’t say if he’ll be good or bad when he gets older but its pretty apparent that old boy is not going to get too much bigger if he’s already that physically developed(strength/muscle definition) but still one of the shorter players on the field. There are too many factors that affect a players success… All you old dinasours complaining about the Music…seriously…its just music…When you guys were listening to Jazz and Rock & Roll your parents thought it was inappropirate too…

I will definitely give the kid credit (based on this film) for being able to “see” the field and “read” his blockers very well for his age…. If his skill level and athleticism both progress into his teenage years, he will be scary good regardless of what position he ends up playing.
Skill is a product of Intelligence
Atheticism is a product of genetics
Athleticism without Skill and Skill without Athleticism rarely show up until the 5th or 6th round of the draft, if at all….
Rob - July 23rd, 2007 at 11:49 pm - #
Nice clipping from his blockers on the kick return, The kid has talent at the pop warner level and for being an older lighter. It’s going to be tough when he gets to high school and meets up with the bigger and faster kids who were to big to play pop warner because of age and weight requirements. When I played pop warner, Most of the good talent grew a couple of inches and did’nt try out while the others grew a couple of feet and ended up being the starters in high school. Talk about college when he gets to that bridge.
Most important, Let these kids have fun and live out their 15minutes. These games are exciting and fun for the players and families at this age.

This little Kat is the shiizzz. Peter Jennings says, hate is at a all time high. The kid is getting blamed for being good for his age. He may be a better baseball player or student. Please let him do what he does. This is a fun clip to watch

this kid is unreal,, im amazed by the moves of an 8 year old!!
Les Bian - July 25th, 2007 at 1:03 pm - #
If this kid is 8,then he has learned or just born with those skills, cause some of the moves that he is making he dont need any blocking. once again if he is 8,dont hate or bring the little guy moral down, with all those negative comments; he may be reading some of these comments let him have fun!!!! Do your thing little fellow.

I was a great Pop Warner player when I was a kid growing up in the ghettos of Los Angeles, California and there were many others ballers in the league I played in. The difference was, which great Pop Warner player continued to work hard and improve his skills and which players didn’t work hard because he thought he was the “sh..”! You also have to factor in if the player continued to grow, and if the player will make the grades to play in high school then college. It takes a lot of hard work and luck to make it into the NFL and I know this because I played 5 years in the league. Without a doubt this kid has talent!!! It doesn’t matter what color he is he can play. No one knows what the future may hold for this young man, but at this time from what I have seen on this video he is one hell of a Pop Warner Football Player! Remember young man everyone has talent, but it’s all about who is willing to work the hardest to get the most out of their talent. Work hard young man and good “luck”!

im sick of the racial comments. its people like that who make this sport less enjoyable these days. this kid has talent, white or black, he has talent. let him use it and quit putting ur ridiculous opinions about how he would never make it in the projects to yourself. if u have a highlight tape thatll make this kid cry to mommy.. put it up. otherwise stick to ur day jobs of being has beens
Jp - July 26th, 2007 at 4:35 pm - #
First off, there is no way that kid is 9 yrs old. Regardless, he definately has talent. There are things you just cannot teach, like knowing when to speed up and slow down, taking angles and his foot work! You cannot teach that. That is a God given gift. Watch the run back on the kick off, goes up the right sideline, cuts back and up and with every cut he is moving the ball to the proper hand. Very impressive.
It is definately to early to compare him to anybody buthtere is no doubt if he stays healthy, out of trouble and is COACHED properly, he’s got a shot! Problem is some of these coaches just want to win and will run him ragged. Gotta get good people around him early.

That kid is tight I have played football on a championship level in high school and college. Those are natural skills that both of my friends did not have who played at that age during middle school and they played division 1A with a major university. Neither did my other friend have those moves at running back like that at that age or high school or college. If has speed stays comparable to his age group you will see him on Saturdays. The last time I attend a football camp was in high school. The coach said, “You see this kid, you are going to see him play on Sundays in the NFL.” Guess what! 12 years later since that camp the QB has been in the league for 7 years. So, I am sure he was just as talented at the POP WARNER level I know my friends were. So in other words it does not take much to tell if a kid is an exceptional talent. THE HOOD AIN’T GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT! It may only limit it but you can’t stop it.

I don’t care if the kid is green he had some nice moves for 11 or 12..Well coached team … Time will tell how good he will be….The blunts and the 40’s got me too S.MONEY

DANG!!!! Let’s just say, ” The Kid’s Got It! ” I just pray he stays healthy until adulthood. And that I am alive to se him when he hits a college field. Bless you kid. Use your gift wisely as well as keeping a level head.
Acknowlege who has blessed you first and you’re guaranteed to go to the top.

The kids isn’t 8. Look at all the kids they are at least 10-12 yrs old. I’ve watched 7 & 7 yrd old football many times and those kids in that video ain’t 8. In either case, he’s got mad skills and is toying with the defenders.
Rob - August 2nd, 2007 at 12:08 pm - #
8yrs old and he is 5′ 4”. Too bad his growth spurt is over and he will end up 5′ 8” and playing JUCO ball
brad - August 2nd, 2007 at 1:28 pm - #
That kid is pretty sick but its little leauge. I say he gets knocked up on the real football field. I’d like to see this kid out run the defenders on the bigger fields(cfl). This kids got talent but hes 13 and already a prospect for college level bull shit.

Kid with two first names. Always a crowd pleaser. Cody Paul… Nice.
He will never compare to the Black-Athlete but he will get a full ride to a D-1 University as long as he keeps his ducks in a row. All the luck in the world to that kid. Awesome to watch.

he’s not 8 — he’s 13, as of 2007. Reality check.
caro - November 4th, 2007 at 1:39 am - #
I mean, just look at the film. Do those really look like 8 year olds?
If 13-year-olds (or their coaches/parents/handlers) all around the country sent in their highlight tapes, I imagine this highlight reel wouldn’t quite knock everyone’s socks off.
What do you say? Thanks, Dad, but check back with us in high school.

Um, let’s keep in mind that none of the kids playing defense knew how to tackle or pursue. Kids looks good, has good feet, sees things well, but if he sin’t running 4.3 40’s or weighing more than 160 pounds, he can enjoy his stay in Boone, NC.
