LSU Shreveport Baseball Finishes 59-0, Wins NAIA Championship

It's hard to finish a season undefeated in any sport, let alone baseball. But that's exactly what LSU Shreveport accomplished Friday night, as the Pilots beat Southeastern (Florida), 13-7, to win the NAIA baseball championship and finish the season a perfect 59-0. In doing so, LSU Shreveport became the first college baseball team on record to go unbeaten.

Appearing in the national tournament every season since 2005, the Pilots are a combined 270-49 in six seasons under head coach Brad Neffendorf. They have been one of the top baseball programs in the NAIA, which consists of 241 small colleges across the United States.

Not only did LSU Shreveport finish undefeated, but they dominated every step of the way, via ESPN.

LSU Shreveport played only four games decided by one run this season, ranked second in the NAIA with 11.3 runs per game and third with a .361 batting average. The Pilots' 2.38 ERA was more than a run better than the next-closest team, and they led the nation with a .982 fielding percentage.

Josh Gibson, at .436, was one of three players on the team to bat better than .400, and pitcher Isaac Rohde struck out an NAIA-leading 146 and had a 2.09 ERA while going 16-0.

Cornell Wins Men's Lacrosse National Championship

For the first time since 1977, Cornell won its first men's lacrosse championship, beating No. 2 seed Maryland 13-10 last Monday, the Big Red's fourth title overall.

The No. 1 seed in the tournament, Cornell proved that it was the best team in the country, especially in the national championship, a game that it led from start to finish.

Throughout the season, the Big Red were led by CJ Kirst, who had six goals in the title game to tie the single-season record with 82 goals. He also finished his college career as the NCAA's all-time leading scorer (247).

Maryland men's lacrosse is now just 4-14 in national championship games.

FGCU Vacates 82 Wins Across Seven Sports

Florida Gulf Coast University has vacated 82 wins across seven sports due to NCAA violations related to improper certification of student-athletes, according to Gulf Coast News.

Softball, baseball, men's basketball, men's soccer, women's basketball, men's tennis and women's golf are the seven sports being stripped of victories from the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.

The most notable win vacated by FGCU was when the men's basketball team upset No. 7 Florida Atlantic 72-68 on Dec. 30, 2023. Other noteworthy wins the Eagles are vacating include two 2024 ASUN Conference championships, one from softball in the tournament and baseball in the regular season.

Softball is also vacating a 3-2 NCAA Tournament win over FAU on May 18, 2024, and baseball loses its victory over No. 16 Florida State on March 4, 2023.

FGCU softball was hit the hardest with 31 wins vacated. Baseball had the second-most wins vacated with 22. The rest of the sports all had fewer than 10 wins vacated by the NCAA. This includes men's basketball with nine, men's soccer with seven, women's basketball with six, men's tennis with five and women's golf with two.

Men's tennis was forced to vacate all of its wins in the 2024 season

Along with the vacated wins, FGCU was also fined $25,000 and will serve a two-year probation, as well as a 15-day recruiting restriction for its men's tennis program in January.

FGCU had 18 certification irregularities across those 10 sports between 2022-24, violations classified as Level II violations due to the university's cooperation with the 16-month investigation.
