Ohio State was in the hunt for one of the top recruits in the Buckeye State, but overcoming an Iowa State legacy wasn't in the cards. David Carr, son of three-time NCAA champion Nate Carr, announced his commitment to the Cyclone wrestling program over Ohio State and others via FloWrestling.

Carr announced his Top 5 in September, including the Buckeyes alongside Cornell, Oklahoma State, Nebraska and ISU. He visited Columbus shortly after announcing his Top 5.

While snagging Carr, FloWrestling's top-ranked prospect in his weight class and a three-time state champion in Ohio, would have been an incredible addition to Tom Ryan's exceptional 2018 class, it's not the end of the world for the Buckeyes. The class already includes some of the top wrestlers in the country, including four in Intermat's Top 40 overall prospects:

  • Gavin Hoffman won Bronze at the Cadet World Championships and is FloWrestling's top 195-pound prospect in the class;
  • Jaden Mattox clocks in at No. 18, and projects as a similar weight class to Carr;
  • Rocky Jordan is No. 36 overall;
  • Malik Heinselman clocks in at No. 40 overall.
