Justin Fields’ NFL career will continue with the Kansas City Chiefs.
After one year with the New York Jets, Fields is heading to Kansas City in a trade. Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs are trading a 2027 sixth-round pick for Fields, while the Jets will “eat a large portion” of Fields’ contract after signing him to a two-year, $40 million deal last offseason.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, other teams were interested in Fields, but the former Ohio State quarterback’s preference was to go to Kansas City.
While Fields began last season in New York as the starting quarterback, he won’t be the long-term starter in Kansas City. However, there’s a chance he could be the Chiefs’ starter at the beginning of the 2026 season as Patrick Mahomes recovers from the torn ACL he suffered last December. At a minimum, Fields will have the opportunity to get plenty of first-team reps this offseason during Mahomes’ recovery before eventually settling in as the Chiefs’ No. 2 quarterback.
Fields, who spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers after starting his career with the Chicago Bears, is now playing for his fourth different NFL team in four years.
