Ohio State has tied its program record for the most first-team All-Americans in one season.

Sonny Styles became Ohio State’s seventh first-team All-American of 2025 when he was named Thursday as a first-team All-American by Sporting News.

Jeremiah Smith, Kayden McDonald and Caleb Downs were also named first-team All-Americans by Sporting News. Caden Curry, Carnell Tate and Arvell Reese made Sporting News’ second team.

Smith, Downs and McDonald will become unanimous All-Americans if they earn first-team honors from the Football Writers Association of America, which will announce its All-America team on Thursday.

The full list of Buckeyes who have earned first-team All-American honors this season:

  • WR Jeremiah Smith (consensus)
  • DT Kayden McDonald (consensus)
  • LB Arvell Reese (consensus)
  • S Caleb Downs (consensus)
  • LB Sonny Styles (Sporting News)
  • C Carson Hinzman (American Football Coaches Association)
  • DE Caden Curry (On3)

Ohio State previously had seven first-team All-Americans in 1974, when Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin was a unanimous All-American, offensive linemen Steve Myers and Kurt Schumacher were consensus All-Americans and cornerback Neal Colzie, defensive linemen Pete Cusick and Van DeCree and punter Tom Skladany each also earned first-team nods.

The Buckeyes’ seven first-team All-Americans this season don't even include their Heisman Trophy finalist, quarterback Julian Sayin, or Tate, who’s also been named a second-team All-American by the AFCA, the Associated Press and On3. Should either of them or any other Buckeyes earn a first-team All-American nod from the FWAA or another nationally recognized organization, Ohio State would break its program record for first-team All-Americans in one year.

Styles joins Ohio State’s list of first-team All-Americans after recording a team-high 80 tackles without a single missed tackle, per Pro Football Focus, in the Buckeyes’ first 13 games of the season. PFF grades Styles as the best tackler in all of college football this year with a tackling grade of 92.7 for the season.
