One of Ohio State’s all-time great coaches will serve as the final Victory Bell ringer of the 2025 season.

Ohio State announced Tuesday that Jim Tressel will ring the Victory Bell before Ohio State’s final home game of the season against Rutgers.

Tressel becomes the third former Ohio State coach to serve as the pregame Victory Bell ringer this season, joining John Cooper (Grambling State) and Urban Meyer (Penn State). In the first year of the new pregame tradition at Ohio Stadium, Tressel joins a list of Ohio State dignitaries to serve as Victory Bell ringers that also includes three Buckeye basketball greats (Clark Kellogg, Michael Redd and Jerry Lucas) and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin, who was the first-ever Victory Bell ringer before Ohio State’s season opener vs. Texas.

Tressel was Ohio State’s football coach from 2001-10, going 106-23 across his 10 seasons while leading the Buckeyes to the 2002 national championship, six Big Ten titles and a 9-1 record against Michigan. Tressel is now the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, a role he has held since February.
