Amir Riep is returning to college football.

The former Ohio State defensive back, who was unable to play for the last three years while awaiting trial for a rape charge on which he was ultimately found not guilty, announced Friday he will resume his college football career at Lincoln University.

Riep and fellow Ohio State defensive back Jahsen Wint were dismissed from the Ohio State football team in February 2020 after they were arrested on charges of rape and kidnapping. Following a nearly three-year wait for their trial, Riep and Wint were both acquitted of those charges in January.

Wint, who has also expressed a desire to resume his college football career, has not yet announced a commitment to a new team.

Riep spent three years with the Buckeyes from 2017-19, appearing in 40 total games and recording 33 total tackles with three interceptions.

Lincoln, a university located in Oakland, California, which just launched its athletic department in 2021, is not yet an NCAA member but will play a 12-game schedule this fall that includes games against eight FCS schools, three Division II schools and an NAIA school. The Oaklanders went 2-8 during the 2022 season.

Riep joins 38 other former Ohio State football players who will play for different college football teams this year.
