Noah Ruggles is being recognized as one of college football’s best kickers.

Ruggles, who has not missed a single kick in his first eight games as a Buckeye, was named Thursday as one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award, which honors college football’s best kicker.

After transferring to Ohio State from North Carolina this summer, Ruggles has made all of his first 11 field goal attempts as a Buckeye, including four in Ohio State’s most recent win over Penn State, which earned him Big Ten co-special teams player of the week honors. He’s also converted all 47 of his extra point attempts.

Ruggles is one of just eight starting kickers in the Football Bowl Subdivision who still has a perfect field goal percentage this season. Among those eight kickers, Ruggles is tied with Missouri’s Harrison Mevis for the most field goals among them, behind only Bowling Green’s Nate Needham (14) and Appalachian State’s Chandler Staton (12).
