Freshman Tracker: Chris Olave Has Another Catch and Three Players Record Their First Tackles Against Maryland

Defensive back Sevyn Banks, wide receiver Chris Olave, linebacker K'Vaughan Pope and running back Master Teague made their way into the stat book and seven other true freshmen saw action in Ohio State's 52-51 overtime victory over Maryland.

Olave followed up his career day against Michigan State with one reception for 10 yards and two targets. He was on the field for 23 offensive snaps and almost came down with his first touchdown. On Ohio State's second possession of the second quarter, Olave was unable to locate an over the shoulder pass that spun him in circles.

Jeremy Ruckert was used as a blocker on his five offensive snaps and was not targeted for a pass. Teague played exclusively on special teams and recorded his first career tackle. The talented tailback from Tennessee has now played in five games and will not redshirt this season. 

On the defensive side, Tommy Togiai, Taron Vincent and Tyreke Smith saw action on the defensive line. Togiai played on three consecutive plays during Maryland's first series of the second quarter. Vincent had two snaps at the end of the first half and a third down play early in the third quarter. Smith was used as the DT when the Buckeyes used the "rush men" package.

Seven players helped out on special teams during the noon banger in College Park. Dallas Gant, Teradja Mitchell, Josh Proctor joined Banks, Olave, Pope and Teague on the specialty units.

In all, 22 freshmen have seen playing time this season, with 11 – Friday, Gant, Mitchell, Olave, Pope, Proctor, Ruckert, T. Smith, Teague, Togiai and Vincent – ineligible for redshirts as they've appeared in more than four games.
