Not a tremendous shock, since (as we'll explore in the coming weeks), but Ohio State has opened at -6 against the USC Trojans in the Cotton Bowl coming up this December 29th. There's a lot of time between now and then, and it could be very interesting to see where the team is now versus almost four weeks from now, but for the most part Ohio State fans could be forgiven for feeling pretty confident about this game.

Other games of note:

  • Penn State starts as 4.5 point favorites against Washington in the Fiesta Bowl
  • Wisconsin is 5.5 point favorites over Miami in the Orange Bowl
  • Georgia and Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl is almost even, with Oklahoma having a slight, 1.5 point edge
  • Some places are making Michigan 8.5 point underdogs in the Outback Bowl against South Carolina

I'll take pretty much any reason to feel happy and confident about college football (beyond Ohio State having a successful season and winning the Big Ten Championship and going to a prestigious bowl against a historically great opponent). So far, things are looking good!
