J.T. Barrett won't be driving anytime soon.

Columbus Municipal Court Judge H. William Pollitt Jr. suspended Barrett's license on Tuesday morning for 180 days as part of his punishment for his OVI citation early Halloween morning. Barrett must also pay a $400 fine and complete a three-day alcohol education program. His charge for backing without safety was dismissed.

"I apologize to the Ohio State football program and Buckeye Nation," Barrett said in a brief statement before Pollitt Jr., a former middle linebacker for legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes.

The 20-year-old Barrett pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Barrett agreed to a breathalyzer test that tallied his blood-alcohol level at .099 percent after being stopped at a sobriety checkpoint early Oct. 31.

The legal limit is 0.08 percent, but because Barrett is underage, the limit is 0.02. Police did not bring a citation of underage consumption against him, however.

Head coach Urban Meyer suspended Barrett for Ohio State's game against Minnesota two Saturdays ago shortly after the quarterback received his citation. Junior Cardale Jones led the Buckeyes to a 28-14 victory against the Golden Gophers, but Barrett is expected to return as the starter this Saturday at Illinois "unless he does not have a good week of practice," Meyer said on Monday.
