The Hurry Up is your nightcap of Ohio State recruiting news, catching you up on the day’s events with an ear on the ground for what’s next.

DAVIS ONLY OHIO STATE SIGNEE ON PARADE ALL-AMERICAN LIST

Buckeye signee Wayne Davis added another impressive honor to his resume Friday.

The 5-foot-11, 187-pounder is the lone Buckeye on Parade Magazine's All-American list, though the Big Ten was well-represented.

Michigan leads all schools with three players listed. Offensive lineman Ben Bredeson, defensive lineman Rashan Gary and kicker Quinn Nordin were the Wolverines' selections.

Former Buckeyes' target Donnie Corley, who signed with Michigan State, also made the list but as a defensive back, not a wide receiver.

Ohioan Tommy Kraemer, a Notre Dame signee, was the lone Ohioan named.

Parade began honoring All-Americans in 1963.

Davis was previously honored as the Gatorade Player of the Year winner in Virginia and a MaxPreps.com All-American for his stellar senior season at Norfolk's Lake Taylor High School. On signing day, Kerry Coombs was asked which of the Buckeyes' five defensive back signees he expected to play as a freshman, and Davis was immediately pointed out.

"I know this is probably something you're going to call bull crap on, but the reality is all of them," Coombs said. "I mean, Wayne Davis had seven interceptions, returned six of them for touchdowns. Gatorade player of the year in Virginia."

The four-star prospect is a former teammate of current Buckeye defensive end Jalyn Holmes and of 2017 defensive tackle prospect Darnell Ewell.

SCOUT.COM UPDATES 2017 TOP 300 AND FIVE-STARS

With the 2016 cycle behind us, it's time to start updating the prospects in the 2017 class, and Friday the fine folks at Scout.com made some updates to their Top 300.

With 10 verbal commitments already for 2017, right now the Buckeyes' recruiting class ranks as the country's best.

Ohio State targets are all over the 19 prospects Scout has tabbed as early five-stars for 2017. Buckeyes' pledge Josh Myers, Scout's No. 4 ranked offensive tackle, is one of six five-stars already committed.

Alabama commitment Najee Harris is the only five-star running back, and he's a player the Buckeyes have continued to recruit. He's interested in a trip to Ohio State but it's not yet known if or when that will happen. Trevon Grimes, the country's top wide receiver, also was selected as a five-star by Scout.

At defensive back, though, is where the Buckeyes could really make a splash in 2017. Ohio State is aggressively pursuing Calabasas, California's Darnay Holmes, selected as the top cornerback in the nation. Directly trailing Holmes is Clairton, Pennsylvania's Lamont Wade, who has had the Buckeyes at the top of his list for some time, as has five-star Jeffery Okudah, the country's top safety.

Scout's Top 300 has a very Buckeye-centric feel to it as well.

Ohio State commits checked in at:

  • No. 15 Josh Myers
  • No. 33 Shaun Wade
  • No. 64 Jake Moretti
  • No. 95 Isaiah Pryor
  • No. 131 Brendon White
  • No. 149 Marcus Williamson
  • No. 158 Jerron Cage
  • No. 230 Todd Sibley

The Buckeyes' 2017 class is likely to be a smaller-than-25-kid-group, but if you peer through the Scout.com Top 300, you'll see a lot of kids the Buckeyes are very involved with. Look at the Top 100 alone.

2016 was fun. 2017 could be epic.

TYJON LINDSEY LEAVING BISHOP GORMAN

One of the Buckeyes' top wide receiver targets in 2017 is Tyjon Lindsey, a star at Las Vegas' Bishop Gorman High School. Lindsey has family in Ohio but he is originally from California and last night on Twitter he broke the news that he's leaving Bishop Gorman and heading back home to California for his senior season.

Lindsey's decision to leave Las Vegas won't impact the Buckeyes' recruiting efforts, it just means that Zach Smith will have an extra leg on his West Coast trips this spring and next fall. What it does mean, though, is that Lindsey, who has been living with his "brother" Tate Martell, Bishop Gorman's five-star quarterback, is likely to receive a bit less exposure.

Lindsey has asked that the school he'll be attending not be made public and expects to make his decision known early next week.

NO HURRY-UP SUNDAY

Barring any major recruiting news happening this weekend, I will be taking this weekend away from the computer as much as I can, so there will be no Hurry Up on Sunday night.

Before I power down, I wanted to make sure that you all know how much I, and the entire staff of 11W, appreciate your passion for the work we do here on the site.

It truly is amazing to be a part of this community.

Enjoy the Super Bowl with your friends and family and be safe everyone.
