After one season with the Buckeyes, Tony Skinn is reportedly expected to depart from the program.

The Ohio State assistant coach, who replaced Terry Johnson on Chris Holtmann's staff in May 2021, will rejoin new Maryland head coach Kevin Willard this offseason, according to a report from InsideMDSports' Jeff Ermann. Skinn, a native of Takoma Park, Maryland, previously worked as an assistant on Willard's staff at Seton Hall for three seasons before coming to Columbus last year.

Willard was officially hired at Maryland on Monday after 12 seasons at the helm of the Pirates program, and replaces interim head coach Danny Manning, who took over after the Terrapins parted ways with Mark Turgeon early in the 2021-22 season.

With Skinn now reportedly leaving Ohio State, Holtmann must replace two seats on his staff this offseason, as longtime assistant and offensive coordinator Ryan Pedon accepted Illinois State's head coaching vacancy on March 4.

Despite Skinn taking Johnson's place on staff last offseason, he did not take on the same role, as Johnson's defensive coordinator duties went to Jake Diebler while Pedon continued operating the offense. With Pedon gone, however, Diebler will assume many of his old responsibilities.

That leaves openings for both a defensive-minded assistant and an additional coach that can specialize in scouting and development, among other things, as Skinn's role called for this past year.

Holtmann said on March 7 that he had already been fielding "a ton of calls" about the opening for Pedon's job, but wouldn't delve further into the hiring process until the offseason. But after losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Holtmann will now begin looking for two new assistants to fill out his staff ahead of next year.
