Former Ohio State men's basketball coach Thad Matta is a "serious candidate" to become the new head coach at Georgia, and the two sides are expected to discuss the job as early as Sunday, according to a report from CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Georgia is in the market for a new head coach after firing Mark Fox, the Bulldogs' coach for the last nine seasons, on Saturday.

Matta, meanwhile, appears to be ready to get back on the sidelines after his 13-year tenure at Ohio State came to an end in June.

Matta previously met with Ole Miss about the Rebels' vacancy earlier this month, but is reportedly no longer a candidate there.

According to Rothstein's report, "Matta has told confidants that he’s intrigued with the idea of coaching and living in the South."
