I was watching a replay of the 1999 UCLA game where Austin Moherman started at QB, did well initially and then lost his QB spot to Steve Bellisari in the second half.
What's the consensus on Bellisari? Would fans consider him a successful QB notwithstanding the issues he had his senior year? I know he was considered an erratic passer, but he actually had a lower interception rating than the likes of Germaine, Hoying, Tomzcak, etc. I know he made some highlight reel type plays and could run, but it seems he's been blacklisted a bit by fandom.
Also, I couldn't help but notice that Moherman was from Mission Vejo. That place is a bastion of football talent. When he transferred to Missouri State he played extensively better.
I can't help to think that some of QBs that Cooper had were actually talented, but Coop just didn't have the staff to develop these guys outside of Germaine, maybe Jackson, and Hoying, there was really some lackluster play from QBs.
I wonder how they would have fared under a Coach Day system if were even his caliber of QB.
Anyways, just some off season musings.
