When Does "coach Speak" Become Lying?

I think Day is a very good coach. I feel fortunate to have Day as a head coach. Those things are both true, but there's something that is happening that is beginning to sour my perception of Day and it's that I get the impression that he does not think very highly of his audience.  And as such he will say whatever he needs or wants to in order to answer a question and move on.  And then as a result of that, the typical coach speak begins to morph into just straight-up lying.

The thing I don't like is, we can no longer trust a thing that comes out of Ryan Day's mouth and I think that's a problem.  I mean, the situation with the QB is obvious. If you can't go to Devin because the game is too close and you're scared of losing, then it wasn't a QB battle anymore. McCord is QB1 and Devin is QB2. It was never how Day represented it to us.  I don't know but I think most people would say that he lied to us, and quite blatantly.

It's gotten to the point where there is literally no reason to watch a Ryan Day press conference. He makes promises that he doesn't keep. It's like he has an epiphany one day where now we're gonna be the ultra-aggressive schemed-up offense as an identity and then constantly just reverts back to the mean. Run stretch to the boundary again, Ryan. We understand, it was just because of the circumstances of the game, and ya know how it played out, and it kind of forced you to go back to old habits.  But next week... yeah next week, we are really going to show Youngstown State how it's done. Promise, double pinky swear!

I feel like he has lied to us not only about what we can expect from personnel battles but also about the overall approach. Remember when Brian Hartline was going to be calling plays? Big headlines. Did Hartline call a play Saturday? No. Do WR coaches even call plays from the sidelines, ever? No.  I'm just a little bit tired of it.  If we're losing to ND and he tries to pull a Tua at halftime, he's gonna have some real problems.

And it's not because I am partial to either Kyle or Devin, I like McCord; I think he's a very good and capable QB with most of the tools. I don't know anything about Brown, because Day totally screwed this up. We get no information from playing either of these guys in the next two weeks, and then if Kyle struggles vs. ND, how will they make that decision to pull him, and how will they know that Devin is any better coming in cold halfway through? He might as well just call McCord QB1 and live with what happens at ND.  But if that's the case, it was entirely disingenuous and not even halfway fair to Devin. The only positive is that I truly think McCord is good enough to be the guy and to beat ND. Hopefully, Day sees the same in Kyle, but I would be furious if I were Devin.

Sorry about the rant. DV if you must.
