After a rough NFL preseason debut against the New England Patriots last week, C.J. Stroud had a better showing in his second preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
Stroud played the entire first half for the Houston Texans and completed seven of his 12 passing attempts for 60 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. The highlight of his day came on the Texans’ second possession when he completed five passes in a row, including a 14-yard completion on the run to fellow Ohio State product Noah Brown.

While Stroud hasn’t yet thrown a touchdown pass this preseason, Saturday was a clear step in the right direction for the former Ohio State quarterback, who went just 2-for-4 for 13 yards with an interception in the Texans’ preseason opener.
With one week to go in the preseason, the No. 2 overall NFL draft pick appears well on his way to being named the Texans’ starting quarterback, as he has started both of their preseason games while taking the first-team reps in practice.
