The ball went out of bounds before it crossed the first down marker. I know the ball was past the first down marker when Bowers touched out of bounds. But aren't you supposed to mark the ball where it crosses the sideline?
Otherwise, couldn't a superman jump at his own 1-yard-line and land well out of bounds at, say, the opposite 1-yard line, and have that be a 98-yard gain? This even though the ball, while in the air, crossed the sideline at, say, the 50-yard line?
