JSN Being Out for a Few Weeks is a Good Thing!

I don't expect this to be particularly controversial, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba being out for a couple weeks, as is being rumored, is one of the best things that could happen for this offense in the long term. As was evident against Notre Dame, Stroud didn't have the excellent timing with his receivers that we were used to watching last year. There were an unusually high number of drops and missed throws uncharacteristic of the connections Stroud had with Wilson, Olave, and JSN. JSN being off the field will force Stroud to develop that timing and chemistry with Egbuka, Marvin Harrison Jr., Julian Fleming (assuming he's back next week), and Jayden Ballard, as well as Cade Stover. It will also cause Day to call more rushing plays in short-yardage situations, given that JSN won't be around to create separation with his shifty route-running.

When OSU plays critical games in November and beyond, the offense will need confidence in receivers other than JSN and its short-yardage rushing attack. We all know what JSN is capable of and he and Stroud already have a special connection. He should fit in seamlessly when he gets healthy and teams will have no answers on defense when he does. I'm looking forward to seeing a monster of an offense being developed over the next few weeks.
