Very confused here.
Noah Ruggles is not enrolled @ OSU in the spring. He's in Hawai'i?
According to: https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2022/04/why-ohio-state-football-kicker-noah-ruggles-will-not-play-in-the-spring-game.html
Noah Ruggles did not enroll for the semester, an OSU spokesperson confirmed. But the graduate had permission to be away from the team this spring and plans to return for preseason camp.
“He’s not with us right now, but he’ll be joining us this summer,” OSU coach Ryan Day said. When told Ruggles’ Instagram account included photos of him in Hawaii last month, Day said, “We’ll have to make sure he comes back here.”
And... OSU Just received a commit from USC transfer Parker Lewis.
This is weird for many reasons:
- Ruggles is clearly a star as far as OSU kickers fare.
- Groza finalist and B1G KOY finalist.
- Single-footedly lept OSU in playoff contention (8-8 vs. PSU & Neb).
- When was the last time a player (albeit a 'specialist') skipped not just a spring game, but school, altogether?
- Seriously, college is expensive and footballers attend for free.
- If Ruggles is coming back (no sources have stated or implied otherwise) why did OSU "clear enough room" for a top notch kicker transfer?
- Isn't having 3 Kickers (Ruggles, Siebert, Lewis) on scholarship a bit unusual?
- OSU has 1 punter and 0 long snappers on scholarship. (Bradley Robinson is LS and a walk-on)
- So, 4 specialist scholarships, 3 are kickers.
Am I over-worried about Groza finalist Ruggles?
Does OSU merely want a long-range and kickoff (ahem, touchback) specialist in addition to Ruggles "short game" excellence?
What is Siebert's standing in all of this?
Watching the Rose Bowl Live (live in LA) it would've been nice to kick it out of the end zone... Some teams have great returners.
