The Transfer Portal is one of the most fascinating, interesting, confounding developments in college football since its inception. ESPN did a series on College football - the first 150 years. One segment was about the most innovative changes in college football with such things as the forward pass, hash marks, etc. I believe when they redo this series the Transfer Portal will be in there.
It appears there are cycles (subject to your input) to the “traffic” through the portal. (These can be nuanced for enrollment dates, semester starts, etc. but I’m sticking with some basics)
August - Post preseason camps
September – November In Season
Early December – Post regular season
Late December/Early January – Post Bowl Season
Mid-January – Post CFP games
April/May – Post spring practice
June/July – Post summer camps
So, I think we’ll see a little more traffic but I’m guessing we will see the next wave after spring ball (better understanding of team’s depth chart, second semester is paid for).
A couple of things have jumped out to me.
The differences of sheer volume from a low of Iowa 5 (total Transfer Portal transactions) to a high of Maryland 19 (followed by Indiana 18, Nebraska 17, Sparty 16 – the Good Guys are at 13).
The difference between Players In and Players Out. Maryland 2 players In, 19 Out (Wow1), Indiana 7 In, 18 Out, Sparty 4 In, 16 Out, SCum 1 In, 8 Out.
The major players being East Division teams.
