Bryce Young’s vote tally was quite impressive—and maybe the decisive results would have been somewhat different if Auburn hadn’t allowed that late TD drive. In any case, Young will be the clear preseason favorite to repeat as the Heisman winner (especially considering how strong Alabama will undoubtedly be next year).
First and foremost, it would seem that the best path to preserving Archie’s unique place in Heisman history is for Ohio State to go undefeated next season—which I know is a tall order but may be required to match what a Young-led Alabama may well do.
And then, even if that should happen, CJ and/or TreVeyon will have to post impressive stats—probably beyond their remarkable stats this year.
The bottom line: I have great confidence in CJ and TreVeyon—especially in their ability to get even better—but will that be enough? And, if they both have sensational seasons next year for an undefeated Buckeyes team, would a split vote open the door for a Bryce Young repeat?
Of course, if Ohio State ends up having a perfect record—including the CFP—with Bryce Young winning another Heisman due to a split vote for two Buckeyes stars, I—and I bet Archie too—would naturally still be delighted (especially if the perfect season includes a win over Bama in the CFP and a rout in The Game).
