A lot of angst out there about the transfer portal and frankly Quinn Ewers leaving.  Recruiting isn't just about the guy rated a 99 versus a guy rated a 92 (for you joystick jockeys).  How players mesh.  How they meet your needs.  How good of a person are they.  How good a teammate are they.  These are all big factors too.

From the beginning, my antennae were twitching over how Ewers sort of pushed his way into the team unexpectedly.  How he was motivated, rightly or wrongly, on non football things.

Same with Jameson Williams.  Clearly, he was the 4th option according to Brian Hartline.  He had already been passed by Jaxson Smith-Njigba.  And we had another batch of great receivers coming in.  Williams was a straight line receiver and either couldn't or didn't bother to learn how to run a route the way Hartline wanted him to. He refused to block the for others the way Hartline expected him to.  And if that was the reason Hartline held him back; the fact the the son of a NFL HOF receiver was coming in, its not hard to see another receiver that would be able to run routes better.  So, bye bye Jameson.

The point being, that roster management isn't just finding the 99.  Its finding the player who checks more than just one box; but multiple.  Who isn't just a great player, but is a great teammate.  Who isn't just a Buckeye, but a brother.  What has helped keep Ohio State at the top isn't just talent.  Its that sense of family and brotherhood.  Its the Sports equivalent of the Band of Brothers.
