ESPN released its week 5 playoff predictions and six of the thirteen writers, including Heather Dinich and Adam Rittenberg, selected two B1G teams to make the playoff along with Bama and Georgia. What’s interesting is that OSU is not one of them. They all picked PSU and Iowa. Eight of the thirteen writers also selected a team from Ohio…Cincinnati. What makes the PSU and Iowa picks crazy is that the path for that to happen, with the two of them playing each other this weekend, seems really convoluted. It would have to be both teams going undefeated the rest of the year after they play each other and the loser of the first game would win when they play each other the second time in the B1G title game. Cincy also seems like a bit of a stretch in that no non-power 5 school has ever made the playoffs and the committee would need to select them over a power 5 one-loss team when they have no remaining quality wins and ND might not look great by the time we get to selection time.
I like that no one is thinking of OSU right now as they continue to get better and better to take some of the pressure off and so they keep up the “chase”. The Oregon loss may have been a blessing in disguise to make changes to the D and to remove the pressure of being a front runner. Please share your thoughts on the picks and whether anything else jumps out at you.
