Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert was named Wednesday as one of 176 semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy, which honors college football's top scholar-athlete.

To be eligible for the award, a player must be a senior with a grade-point average of at least 3.2 while also playing a significant role on the field and demonstrating “strong leadership and citizenship.”

Ruckert, the Buckeyes’ starting tight end, graduated from Ohio State in August with a degree in human development and family sciences. On the field, the Buckeyes’ starting tight end has caught six passes for 81 yards this season.

Finalists for the Campbell Trophy will be announced on Oct. 27. If Ruckert is selected as a finalist, he would join a group of 22 NFF National Scholar-Athletes in Ohio State history that includes two Campbell Trophy winners, Bobby Hoying (1995) and Craig Krenzel (2003). Jordan Fuller was Ohio State's most recent NFF National Scholar-Athlete in 2019.
