Already, I can see people getting defensive about how the 2014 team had NFL talent all over the field and how this isnt 2014. You're right. Despite the situations being similar, the 2014 team was actually WAY WORSE than what we have now.
CJ Stroud is worlds better than what JT Barrett was at the beginning of that 2014 season, and he's only getting better.
We were playing Doran Grant and Eli Apple as our corners.
Besides Joey Bosa, that D line didn't have the same amount of talent that this one does.
Our recievers were Jalin Marshall, Devin Smith, Evan Spencer, and a young Michael Thomas. This years group has Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson, JSN, Julian Fleming. There's no contest on which group is better.
Oh, did I forget to mention that Navy and VA Tech POUNDED us on the ground? (kinda like how Minnesota and Oregon did this year)
Our defense in the first two games of 2014 surrendered 390 yards to Navy and 324 to VA Tech (Offenses that were no where near as good as Minnesota and Oregon. Hell, NAVY DIDN'T EVEN THROW PASSES)
VA Tech overwhelmed our offensive line just like Oregon did.
That 2014 team got better as the season went on, Joey Bosa erupted and turned into a world beater, JT caught fire, and the team ended up winning it all.
I'm not saying that the situation isn't bad, but some of you need to show a little faith. No college football team has ever stayed the same throughout the season. Why should this be any different? Why are we looking at this one loss like this is the best this team can muster in WEEK 2?
Inversely, try not to harp on people who decide to have some optimism. Don't get mad if people think we can make the playoffs (which we still can) and downvote them. We lost a game, we didn't lose everything. We probably don't even fall out of the top 10 after this.
