THIS is the response I was hoping to see from everyone. But unfortunately people feel personally scorned.

If you really held that against him, says more about you than him. He’s a kid.

Like clockwork I came here immediately to see Buckeye fans throwing shots at a former Buckeye. I’m not sure why I expected better of us.

Notice how I put “Battle” in quotations.....exact thing that happened here.

THERW IS NO QB BATTLE. Fields was gonna start the moment he walked on campus, just like Martell will most likely start. QB competitions are a fallacy.

I don’t think people on here are accepting why this actually happened.

There was no QB competition. Never existed. Day knew from the moment Fields arrived that was his guy. The QB competition talk was to keep Martell and Baldwin as good backup options. Martell saw right through it and transferred immediately (and is now currently leading Miami’s QB “battle”), but Baldwin took the bait.

Look at the timing. This is literally 5 days after the spring game. FIVE. You don’t go from “I love Ohio State, I don’t shy from competition” to entering the transfer portal in 5 days.

Day isn’t Meyer. Meyer had a soft spot for his players to challenge and earn the starting jobs. It’s why personnel has sometimes been spotty in certain positions (think Tuf Boreland). Sucks to say, but with Day in charge, Baldwin didn’t stand a chance.

EXACTLY. You notice QB competitions don’t happen often at blue blood programs? Urban Meyer’s philosophies are gone. Fields was gonna start the moment he arrived. It would have taken a disastrous spring/summer/fall for him not to start.

This timing is wildly fishy. AFTER the spring game?

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like Baldwin was given some news of pecking order and made a decision based on that. I refuse to believe that if he 100% had a fair shot he would just forget the months of winter and spring training and decide to leave.

Buckeye fans don't really want to admit it, but the reality is this:

Two years ago, Miami was well on its way to making a CFP appearance. Remember the Turnover Chain hype? That wasn't a fluke.Their defense was outstanding. It was their offense that made winning games tough against better competition. Their QB play the last few years have been atrocious.

Am i saying Miami is now the favorite to win the ACC? Absolutely not. Clemson are the National Champions. However I will say Clemson now has actual competition in the ACC. It's not a cakewalk. Tate makes that offense dangerous. Don't forget, This is CFB. One errant Trevor Lawrence pass could be the difference bewteen Clemson returning to the CFP and Miami making their first ever appearance.

He's/She's obviously not meaning the dictionary definition.

Buckeye fans are upset that he transferred after saying things to the media yadda yadda yadda...

Tate saw a better opportunity for himself and took a gamble on it, and people on here are upset because he didn't stay in the battle like a good little boy and risk the chance of losing and having to sit out ANOTHER year.

Fans don't really care about the players, they only care about what the player can do for their team. That's the plantation mentality. 'If you don't do right by me/my team, you're dead to me"

Two sides to every coin.

Tate sat behind arguably the greatest Buckeye QB of all time (Barrett) and a high flying Heisman Finalist/Top 10 Draft Pick (Haskins). When the news broke that Fields would be transferring, news sites started calling Fields the next buckeye savior, completely forgetting Tate. Reporters started asking Tate about Fields, which is just plain wrong to me.

Then you prepare yourself for a QB battle to learn the Head Coach that recruited you is retiring. Another blow.

The final nail in the coffin was Urban sitting with Fields and Haskins at the basketball game. Looking at all of this, Tate probably felt like he wasn't gonna get a fair shake and made a judgement call based off that. Could he have handled the situation better? Sure, there's room for improvement. However, he's barely 21, and he's passionate. I don't expect him to handle everything like a seasoned pro.

Sometimes the best QB doesn’t win the job it really comes down to who the coach is more comfortable with

Wow, what a horrible take. Haskins was the better talent, no doubt, but being the starting QB is more than just being able to throw well. In fact, you could argue JT (outside of throwing) was the better player. You gotta be a leader, which Haskins himself said he wasn't ready.

And before you start mentioning Alabama and Clemson with their situations, Haskins didn't have the locker room on his side. Also, Hurts and Bryant arent as good as JT was. Its easier to replace Kelly Bryant and Jalen Hurts than it is to replace a 3x Captain, National Champion, 2x BIG POY, and National Champion JT Barrett.
