Devin Smith's tenure with the New England Patriots has ended before the start of training camp.
After joining the Patriots' practice squad in December and signing a futures contract with the team in January, the former Ohio State wide receiver was released by the Patriots on Tuesday, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
Smith, a second-round pick by the New York Jets in the 2015 NFL draft, did not play in any NFL regular-season games last year after being released by the Dallas Cowboys. He appeared in four games and caught five passes for 113 yards and a touchdown with the Cowboys in 2019.
