I know that the QB position is top of mind for all OSU fans, but I think Ryan Day is smart enough to know how to play it this year to get back to the playoffs and compete for the NC. All he needs to do is follow the blueprint Bama laid out last year with Mac Jones.
First and foremost, Mac Jones ain't Justin Fields; he ain't Trevor Lawrence. He ain't Tua. But Saban and Sark were bloody geniuses with the way they handled last season and I think we can do the same this year. Certainly any of the guys in our camp has a ceiling that is higher than Jones' (presumably), and the offense is loaded with talent. Last year Bama gave Mac all the weapons: outstanding wideouts, amazing O line, and a running game. They surrounded a QB with uber talented guys and let him manage it. He never had to win a game for Bama, he just had to get the ball to his playmakers (Smith, Waddle, Harris, etc.). With OSU's O line projected to be one of the best in the country and our WR corps being the best out there with Wilson, Olave, JSN, Fleming, Ruckert, etc. and our RB room full of horses, I'm sure Day and Wilson are going to play it wisely and mirror the philosophy Bama had with Jones at QB.
The one difference is that Jones, while coming into this season only having started a handful of games, was a veteran who had time to learn the system and when it was his turn he filled the role perfectly. Jones had more "sideline experience" than our 3 QBs, but I hope that doesn't matter. I think the QB that wins the job will play the role of greasing the wheels of a mighty offensive machine (much like Mac did for Bama); he won't be relied upon to be the ultimate force that pulls the offense along.
