Ohio State senior defensive lineman Tracy Sprinkle has been named as one of 109 players on the preseason watch list for the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy.
The Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the Football Bowl Subdivision player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Ohio State has one previous winner of the award: Joel Penton, who won the award in 2006.
Sprinkle played in only one game last season after suffering a season-ending knee injury. He'll have to compete for playing time this season on an Ohio State defensive line that's loaded with talent, but he's considered to be among the Buckeyes' emotional leaders.
