A road game against the No. 1 team in the country proved to be too much for Ohio State women’s basketball on Sunday.
After starting the season with a pair of home games against mid-major opponents, the Buckeyes (2-1) suffered their first loss of the year at UConn, falling 100-68 to the top-ranked Huskies.
Ohio State kept the game competitive for a quarter, trailing by only three points (27-24) after 10 minutes, but UConn pulled away with a 23-6 second quarter to make it a 20-point game at halftime. The Huskies led by at least 20 points for the entire second half as UConn star Sarah Strong tallied 29 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks.
Turnovers doomed the Buckeyes as they gave the ball away 24 times, leading to 37 UConn points.
