Why RPI is a Completely Useless Tool to Gauge Teams for the NCAAs

Had not looked at the RPI rankings this year until today. Mindboggling what it is producing.  It has Ohio State at 21. It has Georgia State, with a 6-4 record, ranked 14th and they were 9th before their most previous loss with no victories over any one of note (unless you include beating a Georgia Tech team whose strength of schedule is ranked 125th and is 7-5 so far this year by a score of 123-120).

Drake, who is undefeated but has a SOS of 150th, is ranked 11th and jumped 16 places after two wins against that powerhouse Missouri State. Iowa is not even in the top 50, they are at 59th with such illustrious teams like 4-3 Pacific being 26 places ahead of them. Or better yet, 4-6 UCF sits at 54.  But hey, their SOS is currently ranked second overall so they have that going for them.

I understand that as more games are played that these will change but with many teams having played over half of their schedule you would think that it would reflect a more truer view of how teams stack up.

I was using the Real-Time RPI which is this link:

This is CBS's which is slightly better (for example has Iowa at 44) but still has Drake at 11 and Georgia State at 17th:
